Publisher's summary

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. So far Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing.

Now Dory's vampire father has come back into her life. Her uncle Dracula (yes, the Dracula), infamous even among vampires for his cruelty and murderous ways, has escaped his prison. And her father wants Dory to work with gorgeous master vampire Louis-Cesare to put him back there.

Vampires and dhampirs are mortal enemies, and Dory prefers to work alone. But Dracula is the only thing on earth that truly scares her, so when Dory has to go up against him, she'll take all the help she can get….

Xena with an edge!

Would you consider the audio edition of Midnight's Daughter to be better than the print version?

Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dorina. Hands down, take no gruff and if your going to go down take as many of them with you as you can.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scenes are the fights and the interactions with the characters. Her love interest is an all out and alpha male but she don't need him or want him. I found several chapters funny and replayed them over and over.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The dysfunction between "Daddy dearest and Dorina". How she copes and makes no secret about who she is and what she does.

Any additional comments?

Loved the narator. You just need to keep in mind that Dorina has like a split personality. The book is written in each character's point of view. The best way to keep up, when you first listen or read it, is to give it a bit and she uses the character to explain later what happened. Which for a fictional book makes it more real. Because really if you had a dark side it would ruin it if it was written in Dorina Chapter 1 and then Dorina Vampire Chapter 2.

Average

The story was ok. There were some weak transitions and details. The narrator could have been better.

Couldn't Finish It

Okay, I love all of Karen Chance's other books and I was excited to read this one because it was a spin off from the Cassandra Palmer series....however it was not good enough. I wonder if it was just the narrator??? I wish they had the same narrator for this book as the CP Series because most of the characters are the same. However, They dont sound the same in this book, Mercea has a horrible accent, Louie Cesare doesnt sound french, he sounds German, and the main character Dorina sounds like shes 50 years old. I couldnt even get through the first part. If you havent heard the CP series then you might like this book, otherwise it will not be what you expected.

Ugh the accents

She made the male the male characters have horrible accents that grate on the ears. I have the kindle version and loved it when I read it but I’m soooo turned off by loise and all the other guys. Could only make it to the 2nd chapter.😩

no no and no

I have tried to listen to this book several times and I can never get through it. I don't like the lead female character. Her actions and her long inner monologues truly annoy me.

You are all tough, we get it. Move on!

You know those scenes in books or movies where you have to put up with a cliche moment of macho posturing to prove someone is tough. Moments where you are in the middle of a pissing contest and the testosterone makes you want to gag...The ENTIRE book is like that and the worst offender is the female lead character.

Also, the plot is a bit thin but it would have been ok to follow if it did not go into these flashbacks of the past where you had no way of knowing that is what was happening and you felt like you had lost a few chapters until you realized it was a flashback...maybe in the book it goes into italics or something but here the narrator just reads it straight without letting you know what is happening ...I recommend that for flashbacks audiobooks changes narrators, tones of voice, add background wind sound or something! I kept going back trying to figure out where I got lost.

Dracula & Rasputin....REALLY!?

my mistake

I have been curious about this book for a very long time. I shouldn't have indulged my curiosity. After 3 chapters I was sick of the lead character and couldn't continue.
