Publisher's summary

Enter the woods...if you dare.

For centuries, the woods have been a pivotal part of the wonder and danger of fairy tales, for once you enter anything can happen. Elves, druids, fairies - who knows what you will find once you dare step into the forest?

And now, New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison ventures into these mysterious, hidden lands of magic and mystery in her first short-story collection. Into the Woods brings together an enchanting mix of brand-new, never-before-published stories and tales from Harrison's beloved, best-selling Hollows series.

The tales here include an original Hollows novella, "Million-Dollar Baby", about Trent Kalamack's secret elven quest in Pale Demon; two original short stories, "Pet Shop Boys" and "Temson Woods," that explore just what happens when humanity and the supernatural collide; and two novelettes, "Spider Silk" and "Grace," set in new worlds of imagination and adventure. Into the Woods also contains all of the previously published Hollows short stories - together in one volume for the very first time.

Step into the woods and discover the magic for yourself.

Not what I expected, but still good

Would you consider the audio edition of Into the Woods to be better than the print version?

I honestly consider the audio version of any book better than the print version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Into the Woods?

I absolutely love the stories that included the perverted pixie with the foul mouth. Very funny stuff.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first time I heard Gavin.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No way!! I listen to it in sections over a couple of weeks. It was easy to do that because it is a book of short stories.

Any additional comments?

This type of book is not usually my cup of tea, but I was surprised at how much I ended up enjoying it.

Great Anthology

Overall, this was a very good anthology. I totally enjoyed the Hollows shorts, some of which I'd read before, and enjoyed most of the rest of the stories. I would especially like to see more in the world of the last story. I absolutely loved the story about Kisten and Rachel, mainly because I miss that character in the series. I didn't care too much about the story Temson Estates mainly because I don't think there was really much of a plot. Marguerite Gavin did a fantastic job as always and was as consistent with the character voices as she is in the series.

not one of her better books.

I enjoyed the story about Jenks, but many of the other stories in this book I didn't find as interesting as her other books.

Out of series but important

What did you love best about Into the Woods?

This book explains who Daryl is. You really shouldn't continue the series unless you have read this one in order.

Interesting if you're already a fan

The short stories fill in some blanks, expand some characters. Overall, only worthwhile if you are a Hollows fan.
The intros by the author at the beginning of each story are unnecessary and detract from the enjoyment. Either the story stands on its own or it doesn't. If the author feels the need to explain the story, it shouldn't be there.

This Was Wonderful !

I have loved this series from the very beginning and these short stories filled in a lot of the back story for most of the main characters. It is always great getting to know the characters better and now I really can't wait for the release of the next book at the end of the month. As far as I am concerned Marguerite Gavin is the perfect Voice of the characters in this book. From Algaliarept to Rachel, Ivy or Jinx. I will always recognize them instantly. You certainly can't say that about a lot of narrators.
The Hollows is a wonderful series I would recommend to anyone.

got me back into reading the hollows again!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I was pleasantly surprised with the writer, reader and story overall.

Would you recommend Into the Woods to your friends? Why or why not?

I would mostly recommend this particular book of shorts to people who are already reading the hollows series the only reason I really say that is because some of the stories would be confusing if read before starting the series. as some of the shorts contain characters that aren't in all of the hollows books.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Marguerite Gavin?

I was impressed with the reader especially liking the voice she chose for the infamous pixie Jenks.a good voice match for a good character.

Did Into the Woods inspire you to do anything?

I picked up this gem of a read for a change in pace when things started to get a little too slow paced for me in the hollows series. hoping that the shorts would pack just enough concentrated punch to encourage me to go back to reading the hollows series at great length ... and it had me doing just I am now on book seven of the series and that is pretty good because i was two books behind that only a couple weeks before.
