Publisher's summary

Enter the woods...if you dare.

For centuries, the woods have been a pivotal part of the wonder and danger of fairy tales, for once you enter anything can happen. Elves, druids, fairies - who knows what you will find once you dare step into the forest?

And now, New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison ventures into these mysterious, hidden lands of magic and mystery in her first short-story collection. Into the Woods brings together an enchanting mix of brand-new, never-before-published stories and tales from Harrison's beloved, best-selling Hollows series.

The tales here include an original Hollows novella, "Million-Dollar Baby", about Trent Kalamack's secret elven quest in Pale Demon; two original short stories, "Pet Shop Boys" and "Temson Woods," that explore just what happens when humanity and the supernatural collide; and two novelettes, "Spider Silk" and "Grace," set in new worlds of imagination and adventure. Into the Woods also contains all of the previously published Hollows short stories - together in one volume for the very first time.

Step into the woods and discover the magic for yourself.

A must have for all "Hollows" fans!

Would you consider the audio edition of Into the Woods to be better than the print version?

I love the audio edition of this book because I never have much time to actually read these days, but I spend hours driving. With the audio book, I get the stories I love and it's almost better than reading, because Marguerite Gavin's interpretation of Kim Harrison's work is so entertaining!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved getting the peeks into Ivy, Trent and Jenk's lives apart from Rachel's. I also loved learning about Rachel's first encounter with Pierce.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Until this book, I had only heard Marguerite Gavin perform Kim Harrison's "Hollows" stories. But this book had some other Kim Harrison stories and I was amazed as Gavin's ability to make those characters sound so completely different from the Hollows characters. She's quickly become one of my favorite audio book performers.

Nice tie ins

I wasn't sure if I had read any if these or not. If I had I don't remember. I was pleasantly surprised. The length of the audio included two stories that were almost novels themselves.

Pleasantly surprised, a must for Hollows fans

I typically dislike short story compilations (at least short stories about characters encountered in series, as opposed to stand-alone short stories, like Flannery O'Connor classics, etc) and so, despite being a Hollows fan, haven't read any of these previously. I usually feel cheated with a short story compilation, but not with this volume. If you are a fan of the Hollows series, you shouldn't miss this book. I loved getting the extra background on the secondary characters and the chance to hear new stories about characters who have "passed beyond the veil" in the series. Especially loved the caper with Jenks and Trent (Million Dollar Baby.) That story alone is worth the purchase price.

Gavin, as always, delivers as narrator. She is becoming one of my favorites, along with Kate Reading, Grover Gardner, George Guidall, Simon Prebble, Stephen Pacey, Bernadette Dunne -- well, I go on for awhile with this list. I will just say I think Gavin is on par with some of the better narrators.

If you are a Hollows fan it's a must read.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to a friend. Love the Kim Harrison and Marguerite Gavin combination. The stories filled some holes for me in the Hollows series. I read the novels but hadn't gotten to all the short stories and novellas. It was great having them all in one book. It was really entertaining.

Some of the stories are a little darker then I'm used to with Kim Harrison but I enjoyed them just as much as the happy ending stories. She is an excellent author and really knows how to capture the reader's attention.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the story of Rachael and Pierce the best. It explained how she got into the IS and gave some insight about her childhood illness.

Which character – as performed by Marguerite Gavin – was your favorite?

Jenks is always my favorite. I love the voice she does for him. I find it amazing that she can do so many unique voices.

Great Kim Harrison.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Now this is more like the Kim Harrison I like. More like a 4 1/2 star book. The fill in the gap story's of Harrison's hollows series are 5 star and very enjoyable.
this collection of stories are worth every Penney you pay for book.

Wouldn't mind seeing a couple of the last stories in the book become their own series just to see how they develop.

If you like the hollows books this is defiantly one to read.

What did you like best about this story?

Fills in the blanks in hollow series plus a couple totally new/different stories.

Which character – as performed by Marguerite Gavin – was your favorite?

She does great job. The pixies.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Very enjoyable. Some of the pixie comments will make you laugh
