Publisher's summary

Enter the woods...if you dare.

For centuries, the woods have been a pivotal part of the wonder and danger of fairy tales, for once you enter anything can happen. Elves, druids, fairies - who knows what you will find once you dare step into the forest?

And now, New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison ventures into these mysterious, hidden lands of magic and mystery in her first short-story collection. Into the Woods brings together an enchanting mix of brand-new, never-before-published stories and tales from Harrison's beloved, best-selling Hollows series.

The tales here include an original Hollows novella, "Million-Dollar Baby", about Trent Kalamack's secret elven quest in Pale Demon; two original short stories, "Pet Shop Boys" and "Temson Woods," that explore just what happens when humanity and the supernatural collide; and two novelettes, "Spider Silk" and "Grace," set in new worlds of imagination and adventure. Into the Woods also contains all of the previously published Hollows short stories - together in one volume for the very first time.

Step into the woods and discover the magic for yourself.

Pleasantly surprised, a must for Hollows fans

I typically dislike short story compilations (at least short stories about characters encountered in series, as opposed to stand-alone short stories, like Flannery O'Connor classics, etc) and so, despite being a Hollows fan, haven't read any of these previously. I usually feel cheated with a short story compilation, but not with this volume. If you are a fan of the Hollows series, you shouldn't miss this book. I loved getting the extra background on the secondary characters and the chance to hear new stories about characters who have "passed beyond the veil" in the series. Especially loved the caper with Jenks and Trent (Million Dollar Baby.) That story alone is worth the purchase price.

Gavin, as always, delivers as narrator. She is becoming one of my favorites, along with Kate Reading, Grover Gardner, George Guidall, Simon Prebble, Stephen Pacey, Bernadette Dunne -- well, I go on for awhile with this list. I will just say I think Gavin is on par with some of the better narrators.

5 Star Bonus, questions answered! & More Kisten

This one really is for the fans of the Hollows. It was fun getting all the juicy insiders about Rachel, Ivy, Trent, Al and the rest. But for me it was so nice to get more of Kisten. This collection of short stories has great stories with Kisten. Yes that sexy Kisten and you get to see how close he really was with Ivy and even a deeper love for Rachel. If you are hungry for more of Kisten, Rachel, Ivy, Trent and yes Jenks. This little morsel might just help tide be over until the release of the next Hollow’s book. Another great surprise is length of the anthology. It is so work the credit. I was thoroughly entertained for 20 and 6 minutes with Marguerite Gavin as the narrator, she is a terriffic narrator!. Thanks audible for offering this at such a great price. Wow what a deal! Kim Harrison really know how to say thank you to her fans, this collection of short stories is all for the Fans. I loved it!

Just what we needed!

I usually don't go in for the short stories. I love these stories that fill in holes in the past. Exactly how Cerri was trapped by Al, Rachel sumoning Pierce the first time as a teenager, and the effect it had on her. A must read if you follow this series.

Drivel

What disappointed you about Into the Woods?

It is devoid of literary quality. It's about as engaging as a Harlequin Romance so if you like that kind of book "Into the Woods" is for you.

What do you think your next listen will be?

The book of Ruth.

What didn’t you like about Marguerite Gavin’s performance?

Just not a style I enjoy. She seemed to be trying too hard to bring some drama to the stories.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Into the Woods?

The entire book. This is the first audio book I didn't finish.

Any additional comments?

Perhaps the target audience is much younger - like early teens. I guess the author jumped on the vampire band wagon, which is not my cup of tea. I should have paid more attention to the description ... I thought it would be an assortment of thrillers rather than multiple repetitions of the same theme.

Added a lot to the series

First, read the series before this book! It is really not a stand alone book. This adds to the series filling in the gaps between stories and expanding on some of the stories you know. Some of the shorts in this book are really not so short at all but are novellas. I really enjoyed some of them and some were just meh, but Kim Harrison is a great writer and she delivers well with this collection.

The good, the bad, and the undead

I like most of the stories but not all. Only listen to this book if you have already read the other books in the series. The only question mark I have is the story about kistin. I could have sworn in The Undead Pool Rachael said kistin didn't have any siblings but in the short story about him in this book, he has a sister. Anyway... some stories are good and some stories are bad but all are worth listening to if you are fan of the hollows.

Not what I needed

This is not the book I had been waiting for. I guess I tried to fill the gap while I waited for book 11 & 12 to come out. I actually didnt finish it. This didn't do it for me. Maybe I will give it another try at a later date when I am really bored.

Out of series but important

What did you love best about Into the Woods?

This book explains who Daryl is. You really shouldn't continue the series unless you have read this one in order.
