Audie Award Nominee, Best Teens Category, 2013

Not so very long ago, Eragon - Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider - was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now the fate of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders.

Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances.

The Rider and his dragon have come further than anyone dared to hope. But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaësia? And if so, at what cost?

This is the much-anticipated, astonishing conclusion to the worldwide bestselling Inheritance cycle.

Will love it for life.

It took me until 2016 to finish the books because I was too terrified to see how it would end. I would just reread the other books instead of finishing the last one. I hope he writes more!

Best Newest Fantasy Series

If you like fantasy you'll love this book. It takes traditional forms of magic and mythical creatures and makes them new and exciting. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good read, but obviously you'll need to listen to Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr first.

Disappointed

Over all the book was very good. Paolini left to many loose ends. Who was Angela, what did the Menowa tree take from Eragon and many other things. The endding was sad. I wish he there was a sixth book on the horizin.

T M I

I agree, end the book sooner and you would get my rating of 4 stars. With this ending, I should rate it 2 stars. So I stuck with the middle ground.
The ending is not as depressing to me as most people felt. I guess I see more reality in it. Most of it was foreshadowed throughout the series and not just by Angela. It just didn't belong in this book, I felt it was a beginning to a new story, one that will bring more adventure and a better world. And with a story to follow it, I would not find it so useless.
But to leave such a series on this note makes me believe that the editor was more interested in not hurting the writer's feelings or the writer was too stubborn to listen and in the end everything in his head had to be in the book... Too Much Information!

Great, but...

why, when voicing a character with a quote distinctly female voice would you make her sound like Yoda?

Great, awesome, and powerful

It's a wonderful story, and I would suggest the series to anybody, not just people that enjoy fantasy/adventure books. The entire series has a deep feeling to it, that is unique to this story. It is bold, and stays true to its characters, you never feel like the writer ever wrote something just to please his readers. He truly made these characters with all of there own personalities, and he never wavers in how they act, and what they do. Just so many powerful and compelling story's, things that when I began to listen to certain parts of the book, I thought at first it would not be interesting, but before I knew it these parts of the book became some of the most powerful, and captivating parts of the entire series. This will not be the last time that I will listen to this series. Tho I still feel that sense of loss that you always feel when you finish a great series, weather it be a show, or a book series, or movie series. I feel sad that I will hear no more from these amazing characters, who I feel like I know so well, but the ending was so great, that I feel content. Thank you Christopher Paolini, you made a fantastic series.

Great!

This series is one of my favorites. Great story telling by Christopher Paolini. Covers all aspects of a great book/series. Action, adventure, love, drama. It's all here! Gerard Doyle does an excellent job portraying the story.

Inheritance

Gerard Doyle's performance was well done as always, however there were a couple places where he used the wrong voice for a character-something that has not happened before in this series. This only happened once though!
As for the story: this was not my favorite book of the series but I still enjoyed it immensely. I really appreciated that Paolini went on to say what happened after the resolution of the story. The ending was incredibly bittersweet, just as I expected it would be.

Great story!

Really enjoyed this series, and I especially grew attached to all the characters. The audio is excellent. However, one thing I will note is that Orik's voice in this book is different from how he sounded in the previous books. In this book, he sounds more like an urgal. It's slightly distracting because it makes it sound like Orik has something wrong with him.
