Publisher's summary

The future is coming...for some more than others.

Ellis Rogers is an ordinary man who is about to embark on an extraordinary journey. All his life he has played it safe and done the right thing. But when he is faced with a terminal illness, Ellis is willing to take an insane gamble. He's built a time machine in his garage, and if it works, he'll face a world that challenges his understanding of what it means to be human, what it takes to love, and the cost of paradise. Ellis could find more than a cure for his disease; he might find what everyone has been searching for since time has begun - but only if he can survive the Hollow World.

amazing

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the narrator brought feeling and tones perfectly. The best I've heard yet!

A Good Read!!

This was a good read, I don't think that i'll be reading it again though... It had a good point of view regarding the future, and how it could happen or be like but thats basically it....
There were several twists through the book which were predictable easily and i didn't enjoy knowing what will happen.

I do love Micheal Sullivan's work, but this one wasn't as great or good as his other work.

Honestly, I just bought the book without knowing what it will be about exactly, I don't regret it of course, it was a good read, but for some reason i've expected something else.

If you like books that show how the future might be like and so on, then you will like this book.

Not for me

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Possible spoiler alert! I did not like the twist and relationship in the end. Just overall creepy to me. But hey, I felt the same way about the Avatar relationship!

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Possible spoiler! I don't know how I would change it. I guess change the ending love thing. Just too out there for me.

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent narrator. Good choice.

Was Hollow World worth the listening time?

No, not for me- but only because it's not my cup of tea type ending. Now Michael Sullivan's Riyria series is worth listening to repeatedly! But I think a lot of people, Riyria fans included will enjoy Hollow World. Characters are very good. World building very good.

Any additional comments?

I need to add that I actually enjoyed the story until the ending relationship twist, so to speak. It was a deal breaker for me. I really like the world building, and some of the issues presented were quite interesting, like what it means to be human and what love truly is. I just didn't agree with what I think the author wanted me to believe/feel. Could be wrong though, maybe he just wanted me to think. It did do that! In sum, I think Michael Sullivan is an excellent writer and although, this book didn't quite do it for me, I will still continue to purchase his books as fast as he can get them out. Michael if you ever read these reviews, please more Riyria stories! My husband and I love them! You are one of our top 5 authors!

A departure from his main body of work, but WORTH the read!

I am a huge fan of the Riyria duo and how the characters came alive through my stereo. I listened to every book and I was seriously bummed when I heard that dreaded phrase ‘the end.’ I didn’t know if I could become invested in another genre and am please to tell you that this book, that I just finished’ is every bit as good as Michael J. Sullivan’s most popular series. The story line is a complete departure but if you’re like me, you won’t be disappointed!

Good

If I hadn't read his other books, this would have been 4 stars. Read those ones.

Doesn’t measure up

Full of stereotypes and phrasing more suited to YA. Love the wit of Riyria Chronicles. This book had promise but was too basic.

It was okay...

The book was basically as others said not up to his other books standards. I felt like the main character was just a little too average and perhaps even a little on the dumb side. The book was also fairly predictable it almost seemed it was written for a teenage crowd. it was interesting enough to make it through the whole book but I kept thinking the main character had no real substance.

Fell a little flat for me.

Not as good as I’ve come to expect from Michael J. Sullivan, but interesting world nonetheless.
