Beneath the mountain, the king's reign of tyranny is absolute; the one troll with the capacity to challenge him is imprisoned for treason. Cecile has escaped the darkness of Trollus, but she learns all too quickly that she is not beyond the reach of the king's power. Or his manipulation.
Recovered from her injuries, she now lives with her mother in Trianon and graces the opera stage every night. By day she searches for the witch who has eluded the trolls for 500 years. Whether she succeeds or fails, the costs to those she cares about will be high. To find Anushka, she must delve into magic that is both dark and deadly. The witch is a clever creature, and Cecile might not just be the hunter. She might also be the hunted.

I wanted to SCREAM at the characters for not figuring out the "plot twist" when I did. Seriously frustrating when you figure out what's going on half way thru the book and everyone else is clueless. With all that being said... I still do enjoy this story. Like with a lot of second books this one was a bit slow and felt like a really big build up for book 3. I will definitely be reading that when it comes out:)
This trilogy is off to a great start! At first it is a little hard to get into but once the story progresses you will be hooked!
I am always so glad to find a new author and this one is great. The two narrators are wonderful and really added to the enjoyment of the book. I am just sad I have to wait so long for the concluding book.
Loved it! It will be hard to wait for the next installment. This is so much more than a love story. I love how the world and story unfold through events and how the characters experience them. This book brings their worlds to the brink of war even as trust is challenged. This series has surpassed my expectations and I'm thrilled to have found it.
I love fantasy and paranormal romance. Mysteries are also entertaining. Every once in a while I also listen to a self development book.
The book starts out slow mostly because Tristan and Cecil are apart but it gets a lot better. It gets very exciting but the end of this book and a great setup for the third.
The mystery was almost too much. You keep trying to figure out who knows what, what side people are on, and where the story is going but nothing is ever clear and it eats you alive. You keep reading trying to find out and it's all totally worth it in the end.
I picked up from a previous review to listen to this book and the one before it at a speed setting of 1.25. That has been perfect!
I have been gripped by this book and the one before. I was SO surprised at how much I have enjoyed the build of the plot to what has been the ultimate goal now since book 1.
I was thinking our main characters a bit dim for not getting what they were looking for sooner. Still, there were moments right up to where
"it all comes together" that had me second guessing myself.
I very much enjoy the love between Ccellie and Tristan. It's passionate but not once ever trashy or over done.
When the main characters lose a close friend or are effected by tragedy they actually grieve for a bit. It's not all, "aww no that's terrible but we got to go do something else!" Many times I was taken aback by the detail of the trauma impact. I think it's more that it's a consistent idea that the characters really feel and remember the lose of others.
Lots of action, Lots of surprises, and many times has me at the edge of my seat...well worth the credit or $
Always seem to be waiting for the characters to explain what they feel and what they think they know. Otherwise the story was great and I love the characters.
"Predictable but good"
Called the plot twist pretty early but the actors were marvellous! worth a listen but maybe not a repeat.
I have swiftly fallen in love with this series but now dread listeners to the final installation as it will be the last!
I did however guess who Anushka was right at the very beginning of the very first book, call it writers hunch!
"Loved it, can't wait for next book."
Yes, Its just what they would like romance, danger and magic. Very well written and very well read.
I liked all the Characters, it's told from the two main characters points of view from the way they feel to the way they see the world around them.
Yes, I loved Stolen Song Bird the first in the series, they read that the same way, very expressive you believe they are the characters.
Beauty And The Beast have nothing on this love affair!
If you like magic and romance you will love this.
