Publisher's summary

Hounded into retirement and disgrace by political enemies, cut to the heart by the murder of the man she loved, and bereft of confidence in herself and her abilities, Captain Honor Harrington has retreated to the planet Grayson to take up her role as Steadholder while she tries to heal her bitter wounds.

But the People's Republic of Haven is rising from defeat to threaten Grayson anew, and the newborn Grayson Navy needs her experience desperately. It's a call Honor cannot refuse, yet even as she once more accepts the duty whose challenges she fears she can no longer meet, powerful men who hate and fear the changes she's brought to their world are determined to reverse them. They have a plan ... and for it to succeed Honor Harrington must die.

Two irresistible forces are rushing together to crush Grayson between them, and only one woman uncertain of her capabilities, weary unto death, and marked for murder-stands between her adopted planet and its devastation.

A Note from Author David Weber
There's been some confusion—not to say, um, energetic debate, readers and fans being readers and fans—about the correct pronunciation of "Manticoran." The truth, alas, is that a stitch was dropped. An error occurred. A mistake was made… and it wasn't Audible's fault. It was mine. Before Audible recorded the very first Honor Harrington book, narrator Allyson Johnson and I not only corresponded by e-mail but actually spoke to one another by phone. She wanted to make absolutely certain she had the correct pronunciations for names, places, star nations, etc., and I tried to make certain all of her questions were answered. And so they were. Unfortunately, at some point in the process, I replied to one of her e-mails by telling her that "Man-ti-core-ahn" was pronounced "Man-tik-er-ahn." Exactly how this happened is more than I can say at this point, except to blushingly disclose that the original e-mail remains intact, confirming to all the world that it was, indeed, my fault. I can ascribe it only to a temporary mental hiccup on my part and crave your forgiveness. If, however, you must blame someone for the mix-up, that someone should be me and not Audible, who have done everything they could to get it right.

Listen to another Honor Harrington adventure.

Weber does it again

Another in the series about Honor Harrington. To understand the full series, you need to start with On Basilisk Station and follow tem from there. The story is well written, like all David Weber books (for true space opera/naval battles try "The Shiva Option/In Death Ground"). I have yet to be disappointed with a David Weber book, his characters are well developed and rarely do you find anything disconnected. Highly recommended series.

Maybe the best yet

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I've read and enjoyed all the previous ones, and I was so engrossed by this one that maybe it is the best one yet. There is a good balance of space and non-space activity, and once again the narrator delivers a fine performance.

An amazing military Sci-fi tale

I recently finished listening to Flag in Exile written by David Weber and narrated by Allyson Johnson.

This is the fifth book in the core Honor Harrington series. It's hard to review a book this deep in a series without a few spoilers. If this is an issue for you I suggest you skip to the conclusion.

Honor Harrington, after having recently killed another peer of Manticore in a duel due to the death of her beloved, finds herself beached from the Navy. Since she saved Grayson some time in the past they had made her a steadholder, a type of nobility within the Grayson system.

Honor takes up her residence in Grayson and attempts to embrace her duties as a steadholder as well as the champion of the Mayhew reforms. Despite her general willingness to embrace as much of their culture as she can, many on Grayson chafe at the concept of a female steadholder.

The universe waits for no one, however, and the Manticore and Havenite war grind forth in the meantime. Mayhew, let's one of his admirals approach Honor about serving in the Grayson military. While he generally thinks it would be good for, he is mainly allowing it because Grayson is desperate for truly experienced officers. Besieged in her own steading or on the deck of a ship, Honor Harrington must find the will to fight on.

The narrator, Allyson Johnson, does a truly stellar job with this novel. She is highly adept at helping each character find their voice through her.

Conclusion: This is another excellent entry into the Honor Harrington series. Once you combine it with the amazing narration, this is a great political thriller and military Sci-fi novel.

Space Opera

Great ,dense story .Early structure has held up nicely and many characters are playing here ,not just ,drum roll, Honour. A little too much chit chat and if I hear "above my pay grade "again ...
On the whole ,yes but not hurray .
