Publisher's summary

Terry Goodkind, author of the enormously popular Sword of Truth novels, has forged perhaps his best yet, pitting Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell against threats to the freedom of the world. They both must struggle at opposite ends of the earth against the relentless, monolithic forces of the Imperial Order.

A Sister of the Dark captures Richard and takes him deep into the Old World, to the very heart of the Order, while his beloved Kahlan remains behind. Free because of Richard's sacrifice for her, but unwilling to abandon the cause of the Midlands, Kahlan violates not only prophecy but her last pledge to Richard, and raises an army against the advancing horde of the Imperial Order. Separated and fighting for their lives, Richard and Kahlan will be pushed to the limits of their endurance and tested in their love for one another.

Once again, the master storyteller weaves a riveting spell that will captivate even more fans for this incredible series.

Critic reviews

"Notable for its engaging secondary characters, the novel also evinces flashes of sly wit....Goodkind's ingenious world-building will keep readers captivated." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Kenneth's narration follows the intensity of the plot through battles and hardship, as well as dreams of love and caring human relationships. With Kenneth as guide, this book never lags." ( AudioFile)

Great nobility of life message

I enjoyed this installment of the Sword of truth series very much. I still feel this story could do without the bulk of the graphic sexual content, but gratefully, in this book, it was kept to mostly one chapter.

Inspiring

Overall, excellent. With the exception of Zed's voice.
Zed is stronger than the voice suggests. He's the First Wizard not a feeble old man.

A Warning of our Future

This book will send a chill down your spine. This can and will so easily happen in our society today.

most accurate fictional description of socialism e

This story is so powerful. this is the first book I ever read by Terry Goodkind and I own every book he's ever written. This story was such a beautifully rendered fantasy backdrop to paint the picture of what the author was trying to get across. It was amazing and I will forever rank this as one of my favorites.

Great story of overcoming any obstacle

Voice is very good. I may like Sam better but this guy is very good and the story is so good with twists and turns and I feel like the battle of views is very poignant to today's political views, but nevertheless it is a great listen.

Great Book, not so great narration.

The storyline was great. Very relevant message, as are most in the series. Unfortunately, I found the narration slightly lacking. It wasn't the worst I've heard in the series so far, but he did pause in weird spots.

How does Goodkind do it?

How does Goodkind keep writing books of the series that incorporate brand-new storylines while still maintaining an overall flow to the series? The stories just keep getting better and better as the series rolls on.

Goodkind has an enviable ability to weave subtle nuance into stories that make for perfect storytelling, all while giving the characters a perfect amount of depth and believability.

good... however

Great performance, story plot was very rinse and repeat from earlier books unfortunately, but builds up for next book fairly well
