Publisher's summary

Terry Goodkind, author of the enormously popular Sword of Truth novels, has forged perhaps his best yet, pitting Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell against threats to the freedom of the world. They both must struggle at opposite ends of the earth against the relentless, monolithic forces of the Imperial Order.

A Sister of the Dark captures Richard and takes him deep into the Old World, to the very heart of the Order, while his beloved Kahlan remains behind. Free because of Richard's sacrifice for her, but unwilling to abandon the cause of the Midlands, Kahlan violates not only prophecy but her last pledge to Richard, and raises an army against the advancing horde of the Imperial Order. Separated and fighting for their lives, Richard and Kahlan will be pushed to the limits of their endurance and tested in their love for one another.

Once again, the master storyteller weaves a riveting spell that will captivate even more fans for this incredible series.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

Critic reviews

"Notable for its engaging secondary characters, the novel also evinces flashes of sly wit....Goodkind's ingenious world-building will keep readers captivated." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Kenneth's narration follows the intensity of the plot through battles and hardship, as well as dreams of love and caring human relationships. With Kenneth as guide, this book never lags." ( AudioFile)

My favorite.

My favorite book in the series and I was not disappointed in the performance in any way. My only complaint... is thirty hours isn't enough.

Great book as part of the series or a stand alone.

First book of which I listened years ago. Seen the audio version at a new and used book store and figured I would give it a try. Excellent story and with an excellent performance by the narrator. Have listened to it many times over the years and still enjoy greatly. Went back and read the preceding novels and the ones that came after. Some are good, some excellent and others I did not care for as much, but good enough and bridge the series. This one is my favorite.

Beautiful story

The narration was wonderfully performed. The emotion from John Kenneth poured through to help with the telling of the story. The description of this world that Goodkind describes is so detailed that I can almost feel the emotion of the characters and touch their world.

Best Book of the Series So Far

This has elements of Orwell's 1984 and Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. And no matter how dark and hopeless things seemed, there was hope.
If you or a friend think socialism may be a good thing, have them read this and they may reconsider.
The only thing that would have made it better would be voicing Zed less like a dying old man, and more like a spirited old man.

Decent story with good voice performance

The basic story is pretty good, though the lynchpin on which the story ultimately hinges at the end is a bit of a stretch and somewhat odd.

The vast majority of the performance is quite good with one exception. The character voice the performer chose to apply to Zed is pretty bad. He ends up sounding a bit fumbling and dim as opposed to the strong, wise, snarky old wizard we've [rightly] been given by previous performers.

Exceptionally Frustrating

Fantastic continuation of the 'Sword of Truth' Series. Not for the feint of heart:)

Zedd

I think the only thing I didn’t like was Zedd’s voice portrayed as a decrepit old wizard struggling to speak. I have always envisioned him as a plucky old wizard. This book is way better than the previous book. Thanks!

greatest book in the series.

everytime I read this book I'm disappointed when it ends. don't get me wrong I love all the books up to Confessor. let's pretend the books after that one do not exist. they lack the heart.
