Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

A favorite fantasy book

Highly recommend if you like adventure & fantasy books. This series has everything- adventure, mystery, a little love, magic, fighting, dragons, etc. It’s a favorite. I also like the voices the reader portrays for the characters on all of the audible books.

Unexpectedly engaging

I had my doubts that a 17 year old would hols my interest through a book, but now I realize it my own pride as a writer holding me back, I ended up listening to this over a few short days, and excited to get to book 2

love the story but

the story is great, I read it years ago when it came out in hardback. I loved that I can revisit it here in audio, however I just can't get past that it sounds like Tom Waits is voicing Sapphira. Come on man. I get making her voice deep and majestic but this is ridiculous. did you really need to smoke a carton and gargle gravel and bourbon before recording her parts

Disappointing narration

Saphira’s voice is so bad. Takes me out of the story every time i hear it. She speaks telepathically; why would she sound gravelly like a chainsmoking cookie monster

Fun story

The voice of the dragon is super cringy, but the narrative was decent otherwise. The story was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to listening to the next book.

Love this series

I have loved this series since I was a teen. It is always a favorite book of mine to reread. Gerard Doyle’s performance brings the pages to life in a pleasant way.

Not Saphira’s Voice

Wow rereading this as an adult via mix of audiobook and book and I can’t get over Saphira’s voice. In my mind she has an intelligent and clear voice that rings in the mind instead of whatever the narrator is doing. So devastating I can’t even finish listening to the book. His other narrations and voices are perfect. Just Saphira’s voice kills me.
