Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." "An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

Simply Good vs Sheer Evil

This story was captivating, colorful, filled with "feeling". Feeling cold when characters were cold and feeling anger when they became angry made the story come ALIVE. Initially wondering if it was too lengthy, my apprehension relieved as the story chapters went on. I was glad it continued and not cut short. I felt the story was completed correctly and felt it was finalized as opposed to the reader being left hanging and wondering about answers to unanswered questions. The writer answered all my questions as the story progressed and didn't make me feel as tho they were odd answers. The answers he explained seemed correct and sensible not far fetched. Very enjoyable read. I am going to read more from this writer in the near future!

Epic

I absolutely love the book the only thing I can say bad about it is the voice for the dragon reminds me of Yoda from Star Wars and since she happens to be a girl dragon I was expecting her to be a little more feminine other than that it’s awesome

Performance not great

Great story. Fub listen. Unfortunately Gerard Doyle is more distracting than he is engaging for story.

Story is amazing, but the voice for Saphira...

I loved every bit of it EXCEPT for the voices for Saphira, Ahjiad, Solembum, and ALL of the female characters. Audible should consider hiring female voice actors for female voices because this narrator did not do a good job with it. Saphira should've had a deep, strong, female voice; not a growl. It took a VERY long time for me to get used to that grating voice. 0/10. Arya's voice was too soft. She is a strong, brazen, regal elf woman. She doesn't talk like a fairy, she would more likely have the voice of a greek goddess. Also, when Ahjiad spoke, I was disappointed that he didn't have a different accent than the rest of them. He is from the Hadarac desert, which means his accent would've been closer to a North Africans accent from the Sahara desert. Solembum should've had the voice of a young boy since that is what he shape-shifts into. Eragon's voice was a bit too childish at times. He had already matured after a 1/3 of the book, why would you have him use a whiny tone in the second half? He had already been through A LOT, and that had matured him to a great degree. He wouldn't be whiny during dire moments. He would be grim and sorrowful. Despite all of that, I do think that the narrator did a good job with what he was given. Overall, the content of the book made up for the mistakes with the voices.

Recommendable

The book itself is enjoyable. However the continual switch between miles, league's, and other distance types seemed odd. In multiple cases the terms would be switched around in a single paragraph.
Wasnt a fan of the deep voice for a female dragon. Though it translates the power she has as a dragon.
overall I've read the book many times in my life. hearing it via autobooks was pleasant. cheers to all the members of production.

Arya

I didn't like the way the narrator made Arya sound. She seemed to speak too slowly and with a slur for the kind of character she is.
