Publisher's summary

Legendary science fiction author Orson Scott Card calls Brandon Sanderson a writer to watch.

Once the godlike rulers of the capital of Arelon, the inhabitans of Elantris have been imprisoned within themselves, unable to die after the city's magic failed years ago. But when a new prince falls victim to the curse, he refuses to accept his fate.

Very well thought out.

Brandon Sanderson and Jack Garrett make a great combination. The magic of Elantris is well conceived and unique. While the book is a complete story Sanderson leaves the door open for expansion as there is plenty of mystery to be explored. His characters consistent with their natures, experience, maturity and limiting factors. In other words they are imperfect and relatable.
This story along with the Mistborn series and Warbreaker shows Sanderson's facination with well defined and "realistic" magic as well as the meaning of religion and godhood. I enjoyed this story very much.

Solid all the way through

Elantris was enjoyable from the get-go. I loved the magic system. The characters were great. I would never hesitate to buy a Brandon Sanderson book.

Big things have small beginning's

Sanderson's first and you can tell, but still well written. Narrating was not very good.

decent story, midiocre narrstion

Started with the Stormlight archives so a little difficult to go back to this narrator and early Sanderson but requiref reading for those that have interest in Ssnderdon.

WOW

Absolutley Fantastic....hooked right away and I found myself frustrated that I did not have a hardcopy so I could peek at the pages ahead. Very good characters and we arent overwhelmed with back history, there is some jumping back and forth but it works, evil protagonists, good twists and the end didn't feel rushed but it left me really wanting a sequel....

Timing is Everything

They need to add .75 seconds to the end of each chapter. It is so jarring to go from the end of a chapter to the beginning of of the next in the same breath.

second time, and I still love it.

There are not enough words. I did love this book, and tend to crave Sanderson books like I crave chocolate.

Worth the listen

After hearing how the narrator reads this book, i didn't think i would be able to finish this one. With the first part of the book being pretty slow and the reader sounding like the Moviephone guy, it was tough to get into this book.

If you like the authors other work you will like this book. Just give yourself some time to adjust to the narrator.

So slow

The best part was towards the end. It was slow dragging and painful. Don't buy this crummy stumbling book. Waste

Awesome Book!

I read the reviews on some people saying it was "predictable" or no "character depth". However, being that I've loved all his other books (esp Mistborn and The Way of Kings) I gave this one a try finally.

Yes, some of it was predictable, some of it was not. Doesn't make it a bad book. The book was great. Made me laugh and get goose bumps at certain points. Narrator does a good job. I was sad when it ended.
