Publisher's summary

Legendary science fiction author Orson Scott Card calls Brandon Sanderson a writer to watch.

Once the godlike rulers of the capital of Arelon, the inhabitans of Elantris have been imprisoned within themselves, unable to die after the city's magic failed years ago. But when a new prince falls victim to the curse, he refuses to accept his fate.

An enjoyable experience.

A well written story that takes you to a place of great imagination. it was a very good read. The narration was excellent. some of the 11th hour plot twists however seemed to be just a bit too... improbable for me but did not ruin the story.

Fascinating characters, well developed storyline, my first novel by this author and I can’t wait to begin another! Great themes throughout that make for excellent book talk..

Sanderson crafts amazing stories

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this audiobook to all fantasy lovers.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Elantris?

I think that the ending is quite epic, but I won't leave spoilers here.

What about Jack Garrett’s performance did you like?

Jack Garrett is a skilled narrator, never once boring, always matching his pace and tone to the story - for example, at times of great tension and suspense, his narration is brisker and more suspenseful.

Any additional comments?

The main character's desire to bring hope, purpose and order through leadership in a hopeless place is very reminiscent of the main character Kaladin in Sanderson's "Way of Kings". I think Sanderson seems to have an affinity for the martyr-like, against-all-odds type heroes, but that's alright by me. They certainly keep me rooting for them.

Simply fantastic

Elantris is a unique and fun story, filled with great characters and situations... it is something entirely new in fantasy. I loved every minute and found myself wanting more when it ended. The narration was great, although I sometimes wish Mr. Garrett formulated different (non-American) accents for some characters.

Wow

What a great read. I will definitely read more books by Brandon Sanderson. A spellbinding story full of twists and turns. When all appears to be lost-thankfully the day is saved.

A disappointment for me.

First, let me address the issues with the audio. The first half or better of the book is in bad need of editing. There is absolutely no pause between the last word of a chapter and the heading for the next chapter. Not even a comma! This is the point I like to pause to resume later

Overall, the reader was good, but his pronunciation of some of the place and character names was confusing. Names that are distinct when seen printed are confusingly similar when he reads them.

The story itself is good and seems on par with other works from this author with a few exceptions. There are a few continuity errors but the biggest problem I had was how suddenly, toward the end of the book, he starts pulling the various threads together in short, choppy little chapters that just feel rushed.
