Really good not great

Interesting story and entertaining overall. A bit too contrived with convenient solutions that often seemed cheap

Refreshing new fantasy style

Really great book with a new spin on magic and fantasy. Also very in depth political story that draws you in.

Not perfect, but very enjoyable

I only listened to this book in order to get a feel for the author. Since he wrote the end of the "Wheel of Time" series, I wanted to become familiar with him before listening to his take on Robert Jordan's world.

This book was far from perfect, but I enjoyed listening to it. The premise grabbed me from the start, in a "whatintheheck is he gonna do with all of THIS" kind of way. The characters were engaging, and the predicaments were engrossing. Yes, too many crises were survived only through luck and Deus ex machina sorts of surprises.... but there's a lot to enjoy here.

Not bad - not great

Not a bad story - I purchased this one because I loved the Mistborn series and wanted to hear more of Brandon's work. Overall, it was not a bad story but the middle is a bit slow and some plot points are predictable. Other than that, it was not a bad listen. It definately reflects one of Brandon's earlier works.

An Amazing Story...as they all are

I have recently discovered and fallen in love with Brandon Sanderson's work. I have yet to read or listen to one of his books and be disappointed. His stories are always amazing creations with wonderful plots and good triumphing over evil and the struggles and pain involved in making the choice to do what is right vs what is easy. I think his books all carry this sentiment. This is a unique story with heavy political and religious overtures and how these two separate powers are intricately entwined. I won't speak at all on the story only because I think it's worth discovering it for yourself. It's not just a great story Sanderson provides but great values and knowledge. Listen beyond what you hear. I do not want to leave the narrator out of this either because while the story in itself is great, it would not carry the same weight were it told by someone else. Wonderful job from both artists in regards to this story. I thank you both!

Wonderful Selection

This story was great. It used its characters to display honor, courage, chivalry, and love. You can never have too much of either of those. It was a love story for a sci-fi fan

Amazing start to a writing career!

It is my understanding that this was Sanderson's first novel. If it was... amazing, truly amazing.
So very hard to predict but natural in sequence, the plot(s) carries fluidly and the characters are more than a little personable. No doubt this is one of my favorites.

I looooove this story!

This story was just amazing, and while my husband hated the narrator I thought he did an excellent job.

Romance, Political Intrigue, and... Zombies?

I'm a sucker for court intrigue in fantasy settings, and Sanderson certainly knows how to build a setting. The narrator took some getting used too, but he was perfect for the large cast, and excelled at making everyone sound distinct.
