Publisher's summary

Six years had passed since the redoubtable knight Sparhawk had triumphed over the evil God Azash and returned to Elenia with Queen Ehlana, his bride. And now a new danger had arisen to threaten the peace of Ehlana's realm. The trouble had started quietly. At home, bandits began to plague the hill country. In neighboring Lamorkand, the customary political unrest turned ominous with whispers that the bloody heroes of old soon would rise again. And travelers reported that the Trolls had all disappeared from the icy northern haunts of Thalesia. Simple problems, apparently unrelated - until an ambassador arrived from the far-off Tamul empire, begging Sparhawk's aid. These same dangers that stalked Ehlana's kingdom had already struck his realm full-force.

The fabled ancient warriors of Tamuli had indeed returned - intent on carnage. Monsters and fell magics had followed, and the havoc and terror they spawned were tearing the empire apart. The empire had sent for the Pandion Knight who had killed the God Azash. If Sparhawk wanted to stop this danger before it could savage his own land, he now must lend his aid. Sparhawk, Ehlana, and their daughter, Princess Danae, agreed to make the grueling trek to the far-distant empire of the east. They traveled in company with a handful of trusted companions: the stalwart champions of the four Militant Orders, the knight Berit, Mirtai the giantess, and the young thief Talen. With the child-goddess Aphrael to speed their journey, they began the treacherous traverse of the utmost reaches of the Daresian continent, to Tamul's distant capital. There, in the emperor's glittering court, they would encounter corruption, treachery - and a greater danger than any man had faced before!

Loved it

Some of the e voices didn’t match up with what I thought they should sound like, but that’s my problem. It’s also nice to know I pronounced the names nearly correctly lol

Great story, terrible narration

It's funny... I logged in here JUST to leave this review, and the first other review I see notes the terrible pronunciation just as I am about to. This guy mispronounced even basic words, let alone names and titles from the story! There were a number of times where a name was said several times and I had to stop and take a minute to determine who he was talking about! Pla-TEEM for Platime... Hi-ree-o-cray-see for Hierocracy... Sti-RYE-cum for Stiricum. It's so horrible distracting that even as I write this I'm tempted to stop even listening to it. I doubt I can make it through 3 books despite how much I like the story. I've read the books several times through and loved them, but I don't think I can make it through this narration.... Ugh...

Amazing Eddings as always. Horrible narrator.

What did you like best about Domes of Fire? What did you like least?

I loved the story, I read all of David Eddings books once every year. I can't let them go. He's by far my favorite author and I'm happy that audible has him and his wife on here. However the narrator is probably the worst I've ever heard.. you'd think that audible would check to make sure that the narrators have at least a little bit of talent or that the pronunciation between the two connecting trilogies is consistent at a bare minimum.

What other book might you compare Domes of Fire to and why?

The Sapphire Rose. It's the opening book to the trilogy before this.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He had no narrating talent. His ability to differentiate between character voices was non existent. And he makes everyone in the book sound like a pompous ass.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Of course I would. But that's not because the narrator did a good job, because he didn't, it's because it's a splendid story. If this narrator was involved at all I'd skip the movie.

Any additional comments?

Please consider getting a new narrator for this trilogy. And get feedback from your customers or at least people who enjoy and/or read the books that you are paying narrators to narrate. People will be more than happy to give feedback than listen to a narrator who likes to narrate because he likes the sound of his own voice, not because he has talent, because Kevin Pariseau doesn't.

The narrator for the Ellenium was better.

Overall satisfactory but he choice of voices mismatched the characters. I preferred the Ellenium narrator.

it's difficult

this is a series i really like, though not as much as the belgarad. my problem was the narrator, he keeps mispronouncing words. it went on through the whole book and makes me leary of buying the next one. english major that i was i cringe every time another mispronounced word comes up. it certainly takes away from the story, at least for me. the first three were narrated by a different person and while he seemed a little green (as in newbie) he had the names of places and people right. i wish there was a seperate review for narrators.

Returned because of narrator

As a stand alone series, The Tamuli may be ok to listen to, but after Listening to the first series, The Elenium, and then Tamuli, I just couldn't do it. The narrator ruined it for me. I've read both series a few times so even the Elenium took a bit of getting used to, but the narrator was very good, using unique voices for each charachter that even usually came close to how I read it.

The narrator for the Tamuli was much more flat and much less creative in his voicing, to the point that I would get confused as to who was speaking until it was clarified. Also, the pronunciation of names and places varied from the Elenium, which really just shows a lack of consideration for listeners. It also makes me think that the producers were fairly lazy also. It's the first thing that stands out to any listener and I'd think they could get the pronunciations from the author when they negotiate the contract.

Disappointed.

Not with the story, but if you're going to change the narrator at least make sure they pronounce the names and word the same. I got 6 books and had to rearrange my thoughts after the first 3. 😥

better than the reviews

the story is not quite as good as the story of the Elenim. the new voice take some getting used to especially with the new pronunciations of some names. but it's nowhere near as bad as the other reviews make it

I hate this narrator!!!

I purchased The Elenium which contains the first three books of the story of Sparhawk, and enjoyed them so much! I didn’t realize The Tamuli had a different narrator. He mispronounces names, places, and other important things in the story. It is SO ANNOYING. I’ve caught myself correcting his pronunciation each time. David Eddings is my favorite author. I am so disappointed, and afraid to purchase The Belgariad and The Mallorean because they used this same narrator.
