“An epic fantasy odyssey begins.” — Entertainment Weekly

"A richly rendered world . . . Kaner writes action that's both fun and intelligible . . . If "The Last of Us" didn't slake your thirst for stories of a grizzled fighter taking a tough kid on the road, then Godkiller should be your jam.” — Charlie Jane Anders, The Washington Post

Enter a land of gods and monsters, soldiers and mercenaries, secrets and wishes—the explosive #1 internationally bestselling fantasy debut in a new trilogy for fans of The Witcher and Gideon the Ninth

Gods are forbidden in the kingdom of Middren. Formed by human desires and fed by their worship, there are countless gods in the world—but after a great war, the new king outlawed them and now pays “godkillers” to destroy any who try to rise from the shadows.

As a child, Kissen saw her family murdered by a fire god. Now, she makes a living killing them and enjoys it. But all this changes when Kissen is tasked with helping a young noble girl with a god problem. The child’s soul is bonded to a tiny god of white lies, and Kissen can’t kill it without ending the girl’s life too.

Joined by a disillusioned knight on a secret quest, the unlikely group must travel to the ruined city of Blenraden, where the last of the wild gods reside, to each beg a favor. Pursued by assassins and demons, and in the midst of burgeoning civil war, they will all face a reckoning. Something is rotting at the heart of their world, and they are the only ones who can stop it.

Godkiller will have you in its grasp from the first pages. . . An extraordinary journey.” — Samantha Shannon, New York Times bestselling author of The Priory of the Orange Tree

"Beautifully imagined and intensely felt . . . Godkiller is a bone-rattling fantasy thriller that flies by in a breathtaking rush." — Joe Hill, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Locke & Key

"Epic and intimate, tender and sharp, Godkiller is a triumph of storytelling." — Hannah Whitten, New York Times bestselling author of For the Wolf

Dear Listener,

What most intrigued me about the idea of a "godkiller" and the world of Middren?
"The world of Godkiller is set around a sea where multiple different lands have routes of passage, trade, and communication. As they do in our world, there stories of gods travel with silk and spices; however, in Middren, all gods manifest as real, talkative, and fallible beings. The story itself is set after some gods take their power to an extreme, igniting a war between themselves and humans (similar to the fall of Troy, with gods on both sides making playthings of people) that causes a great city to fall and sends multiple lands into disarra.
What would it be like if gods came to life? What would it mean if faith could be used not only to support and love others but also to coerce and blame? These were concepts I was fascinated to explore, particularly while thinking about the capriciousness of gods in Greek, Norse, and Celtic mythology. Additionally, I wanted to create a character who could—and would—hold these gods to account. Someone irreverent, powerful, pragmatic, and independent. Someone who has such faith in herself that she doesn’t put it in anything else, which is her strength as well as her frailty. That’s where the idea of a "godkiller" came into being."- Hannah Kaner, writer of Godkiller

Well written great twists and turns!

Couldn’t get anything done but listen to this story. The plot is tight but twisted which I suspect is not easy to plot and write. The characters and their strengths and weaknesses are the best part of the book- all different, all relatable….somewhat flawed, making mistakes, daring fate, failing and getting back up. I will remember them from here on- I can’t say that about all the books I listen to. WELL DONE!

Great world building and awesome debut can't wait for more

Hannah Kaner's first installment is an awesome ride about divinity, heroism, loyalty and love. Sometimes how those things can be useful against you. Sometimes how those are the only things that really matter. Great exploration of concept and world. foreshadowing of the greater events makes me excited for the next volume.

Truly a fun time. I personally loved Skedi and how he changed throughout. Also loved the Elo the baker knight and who doesn't love a god killer?

Kit Griffith brings the world to life. Did a wonderful job injecting emotion and menace into the gods voices. Also enjoyed the gruffness of Krissen.

The narration is the worst, but then the best...

I honestly didn't know if I could listen to this when I first started. The narration was done with such a repetitive rhythm it was hard to hear the actual words. But suddenly, I was engrossed in the story and that rhythm was absolutely perfect! I say this to encourage anyone initially put off to push a little longer.
The story is original even though you can spot a lot of influences. The characters are dynamic and the world is interesting and layered. Some of the pacing and passage of time feels skipped, but that's a minor quibble. I would recommend for fans of the Witcher books and who grew up loving The Hero and The Crown.
I'm glad the second book is already out but I'm guessing I'll be anxiously awaiting the 3rd as soon as I finish that one.

Captivating

What an incredible read! I was instantly hooked from the first chapter all the way through. The writing was fantastic, and I truly appreciated all of the representation that felt natural and easy.

I want the narrator to narrate my life. They brought the story to life and I could listen to their voice tell me about the weather and be swept up in it.
