Publisher's summary

What do you do after you’ve escaped Hell, gone back, uncovered the true nature of God, and then managed to become the new Lucifer?

Well, if you’re James Stark, you have to figure out how to run Hell while also trying to get back out of it... again. Plus there’s the small matter of surviving. Because everyone in Heaven, Hell, and in between wants to be the fastest gun in the universe, and the best way to do so is to take down Lucifer, a.k.a. James Stark.

And it’s not like being in L.A. is any better — a serial-killer ghost is running wild and Stark’s angelic alter ego is hiding among the lost days of time with a secret cabal who can rewrite reality. Starting to care for people and life again is a real bitch for a stone-cold killer.

A satisfying continuation of a great series...

Where does Devil Said Bang rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Devil Said Bang picks up a few months after Aloha From Hell ends. I didn't do it, but I suspect it's more satisfying if you read Devil in the Dollhouse (book 3.5) before you grab Devil Said Bang. In any case, it's more of the same Stark and supporting characters you've come to love and expect. Witty banter, plenty of entertaining metaphors to paint the Sandman Slim universe, and a plot that moves well make this book a fun, gritty, and downright blasphemous good time.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Devil Said Bang?

I really enjoy the direction and depth that Stark's relationship with Candy is taking. When she pops open the box-turned-rifle and immediately tries to shoot it, Stark says 'that's why I didn't load it'. That was a moment where I felt both characters totally got one another.

What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?

The variety of voices he's able to find and their accuracy to how the characters are written.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A helluva good time.

Any additional comments?

Love this series so far! I would like to see a little more into the mythology behind what it takes to receive 'salvation' in the Sandman Slim universe. I mean, ultimately if anyone deserves it, it's Stark.

Incredible! I want MORE!

read them in order as this is book 4 - so good I will go back and listen to them all again. Keep a pen and pad close as you will want to write down some of the really funny lines!!
like "Hell is circus run by mental patients. Heaven’s a gated community where we’re the bastard step-kids the real kids hate. Daddy’s little mistake." and "… couldn't have gotten me more confused if he'd pumped me full of LSD and tossed me in a spinning mirrored room full of rats" and some are really thoughtful like "It doesn't matter if you and everyone else in the room are thinking it. You don't say the words. Words are weapons. They blast big bloody holes in the world. And words are bricks. Say something out loud and it starts turning solid. Say it loud enough and it becomes a wall you can't get through."

Fun in Hell

This one wasnt the strongest of the series but its still a great book!!! I expected Stark to be a little more proactive in Hell. He's the baddest man on the planet thank god he likes us and hates Hellions

A strong continuation of the series

A pretty good, but not great 4th installment of the Sandman Slim series...not quite on par with the first few, but still a page turner

still killing it

Stark is a very interesting character. He has very conflicted emotions about almost everything that is going on bit with good reason. Very good story to get into, looking forward in seeing where all this goes.

Full of Deus ex Machina but still great

The action and character development is great and I enjoy seeing what happens next although there are a lot of plot holes filled with last minute convenience that sometimes seems like maybe the writer got caught up in the storyline and solved issues so he could move on without interrupting the flow.

However, even with that it was still another great installment in the series.

Sandman Slim Does it Again!

What did you love best about Devil Said Bang?

I love the whole concept of Stark being stuck as the new Lucifer.

Would you be willing to try another book from Richard Kadrey? Why or why not?

Absolutely! I've listened to and loved all the previous Sandman Slim novels.

What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?

His voice is PERFECT for Stark. His other voices (especially Mr. Munin) are great too. His performance is just that -- he performs the story, he doesn't just read it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There's a new Lucifer in town!

Any additional comments?

Great, great series. I hope there is much more to come!

Great read. Great adventure. I commute an hour to and from work and this series has me sitting in my car even after I get home.
