Publisher's summary

The eighth hotly anticipated book in the Elemental Assassin series by New York Times best-selling author Jennifer Estep.

It’s Gin Blanco's party - and you’ll cry if she wants you to. Against her better judgment, Gin is coerced into attending a high-society gala with the rest of Ashland's elite underworld. On display: the priceless art collection of her deceased nemesis, Mab Monroe, and an excess of crime-boss swagger.

While not comfortable in her fancy attire, Gin gets vastly more interested in the evening’s events when a group of thieves bursts in and tries to seize the valuable, dangerous gems. Facing a Die Hard-esque scenario in which she must free hostage partygoers while herself trapped in the museum, things get a little bit messy when the bloodshed begins. Let's just say that Gin should have chosen the red gown....

A different, yet still exciting, scenario for Gin

What made the experience of listening to Deadly Sting the most enjoyable?

The series has kind of fallen into a somewhat predictable pattern. However, this book kinds of changes things up. Rather than discovering a big, bad guy and slowly plotting to take them down, this time Gin and her gang are caught in the middle of an art heist. This set up changes how the story unfolds and Gin's tactics had to change. It was a good change of pace.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I have long been a fan of Finn. He is so charming and his antics make him seem like he doesn't take things seriously, be underneath his is about as tough as Gin.

Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to her narration of the Elemental Assassin books. I think her narration suits the series very well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Let sleeping spiders lie.

Nice change

This was a nice change from the typical plot. More character info more magic and a very interesting ending. Looking forward to read the next in the series.

This story in the series continues with the mystery and action of the others.

I truly enjoyed this book in the series. I liked that her sister were acting aš friends. I didn't care for Owen's consideration for his old girlfriend caused him that much distress. She'd almost killed too many people for him to be this upset about it.

Excellent book

This series has really progressed. I thought that this was the first series Jennifer Estep wrote, but I found out that it wasn't. The first 5 books relied heavily on the constant repeat of how the Spider came to be. It made about a quarter of the books filler. But the last 2 or 3 books she finally stopped doing that and you can really see the progression of her writing. I went from viewing this series as decent but not one I would spend a credit on (just picking them up on sale or in other ways), to being ok with purchasing them at full freight or with a credit. Lauren Fortgang has one seriously sexy voice, but also the edge that makes her perfect for this series. I recommend this book and series.

Derivative of Die Hard, but still fun

Okay yes, I had to get past the ridiculousness of a party full of magic wielding, criminal heavies getting held up … and yet passively waiting for rescue. And yes, I still find it ridiculous how Gin relies on hand-to-knife contact when she should be taking people out with her ice and stone magic (she can bring down mountains for Pete’s sake). And yes, we still have the relationship angst.

But, this installment has better action, humor, and mystery that takes me back to the viscious fun of the first books. This book and the next one are standouts for me, even without the yippee kai-yay finale.

Another Hit from Jennifer Estep

I love this series. Just like all the others, Deadly Sting pulls you in and makes it impossible to put down. I'm can't wait for the next book to come out. I literally I think about daily.

Nobody Wears A Red Dress Better Than Gin Blanco!

As always, Jennifer Estep delivers an action-packed tale of violence and death. You'd think with that sort of material the story would be gruesome and the characters unlikeable, but not so! Gin is sexy, confident and capable. You just have to cheer for her and her friends. I really enjoy this series and can't wait for the next one! Lauren Fortgang adds SO much to the story with her smoky southern voice. A wholly enjoyable experience!

Frustrating with Owen!

I loved that this was such a different style of story. But the Owen bit?? Rage.
