Best Sookie Book!

I love this book! It was long-awaited, but what a great listen! I love the humanity that Harris' gives to the normally cold and self-absorbed Eric. I am actually reading it a second time, since I have finished the series. I can not wait until May!

A Great Story with a Abrupt Conclusion

I think this book has one of the best openings of any of the Southern Vampire series; it definitely had me wanting to see where it would go. There are two seemingly separate plots in this book that may actually be intertwined, but I give the author praise for this. Because that's life: when you've got one big thing going on, here comes something else.
I think this book continues to fill out the world Sookie lives in, giving detail to what would be bare-bones characters in another suthor's less competent hands. Unfortunately, I feel that one of the plots has a sudden and unsatisfactory conclusion. I would have enjoyed another chapter or two to see it fully resolved.
Since I'm reviewing the Audio version I will mention that the narrator, Johanna Parker, continues to be excellent; like a multi-cast performance by one person.

Good

The first story I actually enjoyed in the series. The narrator is terrific. The characters are for the most part all well done. Sookie is still a doormat. Putting herself in a situation that has nothing to do with her and taking abuse at the same time. This time though the author wrote in champions for her. That was refreshing.

Mixed feelings

Out of the first four Sookie Stackhouse books I personally think this one is the weakest as far as plot goes. The way it reads though it seems like this book was used more as a vehicle to setup certain ideas & situations that might be expanded upon in the following books. I guess I will find out when I get there. Still, it was good like the rest of the series has been so far. It definitely has not detered me from continuing on with the many thrilling & supernatural escapades of the residents of Bon Temps, LA. I can't wait to see what book 5 has in store. :)

New to audiobooks

This is a first for me. I’m new to audiobooks but not new to Sookie Stackhouse. In fact it’s one of my absolute favorites. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve read it so many times or because I’ve seen True Blood but the voices weren’t as expected.
Maybe I have too much of a set idea in my mind. Eric has a much more distinct accent and even after the curse didn’t sound as self assured and confident. Bill didn’t sound as old southern either. But these were mild things.
Overall I still love the story. There is so much going on! There’s witches, werewolves and the ever present vampires! We see a whole new side to Eric. (Who I love.) Sookie takes things into her own hands. She tries to figure things out and stands up for herself.
Took me a minute to get used to it but I would continue listening to the series.

Best Sookie yet!

I don't want to spill any plot spoilers, but let me just say that this 4th installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series delivers on every front - lots of action, steamy romance, and a fine mystery. The reader, Johanna Parker, does her usual fine job of giving a voice to Sookie and her many supernatural admirers. I'm so glad to (finally!) complete my Sookie library with this audiobook!

A little old, but still thrilling.

You can tell the story is a little dated, but I didn't mind one bit. As someone who loves a good vampire novel, I've fallen completely in love with this series and even further in love with the main character Sookie. The narrator's performance is also lovely. The voice is southern without being annoying or offensive. Be carful though, you might find your own voice taking on a southern drawl after binging a few chapters.
