BEGIN INTERCEPT

Armies of undead have risen up across the U.S. and around the globe; there is no safe haven from the diseased corpses hungering for human flesh. But in the heat of a Texas wasteland, a small band of survivors attempt to counter the millions closing in around them.

INTERCEPT COMPLETED

Day by day, the handwritten journal entries of one man caught in a worldwide cataclysm capture the desperation--and the will to survive--as he joins forces with a handful of refugees to battle soulless enemies both human and inhuman from inside an abandoned strategic missile facility. But in the world of the undead, is mere survival enough?

    "For Zombie Lovers"

Make sure you start with Book 1 "Day by Day Armagedon" then sit back and enjoy Beyond Exile. I love J.L. Bourne's writing style and the Narrator Jay Snyder, has the perfect voice for this part. I enjoy a good Zombie story and or movie, some more then others, and this is rated right up there with my #1 picks. Please keep the stories coming Mr. Bourne !!

"Among the Best Post Apocalypse Zombie Genre"

For those (and only for those) who can appreciate the dreadful notion that the dead can re-animate and attack the living, this book offers a most bleak but valiantly written sequel to the original "Day By Day Armageddon". It is again written in diary form and our protagonist expands the world of complete devastation by some unknown virus. The dead are now 99.x% of the population and only a rag-tag group of civilian and military remain. The sequel is arguably better with our hero stranded and alone in a dangerous wasteland. The author again brings the book (and this could be his MO), to an abrupt ending but knowing that, we assume that the next installment will follow. Is it scary? Absolutely! Brilliantly read, you will not put it down until it's over.

    "He's done it again!!!"

Another excellent installment in the ongoing Zombie Armageddon. Often times the sequel to any book (or movie) isn't able to hold up to the expectations of the original. Beyond Exile is certainly one of the few exceptions, with J.L. taking us on a new and equally intense journey.

If you are into the Zombie/Post Apocalyptic experience and/or you enjoyed Day by Day Armageddon, Beyond Exile is a must read.

"Good story - Can't wait for the next one"

The story is as good or maybe better than the previous book. There is never a dull moment in this new macabre world of the undead. It also leaves the possibility for a third book. I can't wait. The narrator was also very good. If you liked the first book even a little, then this is a worthwhile listen.

    "Fun new story direction"

So this book is the sequel to "Day by Day Armageddon". The story explained in the format of the main character reading back his diary. The book picks up the day after the events at the end of the previous book. The book takes quit a few twist and turns, introduces new friends, new groups with unknown allegiances, and deeper explanation of what is going on with the undead. Although for every question that this book answered, it brought up two more. The one thing this book has that I thought was missing from the story is a "long trek to safety while scanvanging for items'. This is also the first time that our protagonist is actually all alone for a time. That one section was truly masterful. I generally enjoy these books for fun, and that one section is the only place that actually gave me a chill. If you like book one, there is no reason I can think of that you wouldn't like book 2. Jay Snyder is a great reader. He does the voices with ease, even when he has to use a accent. I think zombies + great story + great reader = a good time. I hope book 3 will be written and released on audible soon. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

"This is just a great series!! Must Listen!"

If you read/listened to the first DAY BY DAY ARMAGEDDON, then you already know that this second book would be just as great. It leaves off right when the first book ends. Its a different scenario because now its more established survivalist book. The zombies are faster, smarter and scarier. And its a great thriller with alot of good twist throughout the book. I can not wait for the 3rd book to come to audio! Please hurry!! and if you like these two books then you would love the TV show on A&E, The Walking Dead. But yes I recommend this series!!

    "Travel and zombies"

What I liked about this book was its combination of travel, survival, and zombies. Like many great books in the past (Steven King's The Stand), this book incorporates a long journey into the plot that makes this story maybe even better than the first in the series.

    "Better than the first!"

I've listened to a ton of audiobooks while I commute, and am a big fan of the zombie apocalypse genre. This book is a masterpiece. The first book got me hooked, but the second book is probably better than the first in my opinion. I started listening to this story and was so consumed by the story that I didn't want to leave the car. I got my wife to start reading it, and even though she is skeptical about this genre, she was absolutely consumed by it as well. Bourne...if you read this review...for the love of GOD please write a book three! I have to know what happens in China! BUY IT!

    "Great series"

I love audio books, but I have to be reeled in within the first 15 to 20 minutes or I lose interest and move on to the next one. This series caught me from the beginning and I haven't looked back. I am looking forward to the third book to see how everything is tied together.

    "Beyond Exile"

Well I loved the first book, and could not wait for this one to come on-line. It started o.k, although I felt it was more of the same from book 1. How wrong I was ! The story takes you down different avenues and leaves you wanting more. One point I think you should know, this is a follow up from book 1 and if you have not read that one first you may not fully get what's going on or who's who. This book talks about alot of what went on in the first. Enjoy, it's Great.

"Good but not as good as the first"

I am a great fan of the first book in this series, it literally picks up the moment the first book ends and continues in a similar vein. After the first quarter or so of the story it moves of in different directions, our band of survivors from the first book become somewhat secondary to another developing storyline, for me this was a problem as I wasn't really interested enough in the new paths the story takes and (as John states in his review) once the "shark has been jumped" our hero is no longer the lone survivalist but apart of a bigger story line....there is a big section about 2/3rds of the way through where we get right back back to basics tho' which was enjoyable....you will know what I mean when you get to it!

Reviews are very personal and subjective but this did not reach the heights of the first book, I had really got involved in the characters and their stories and could not wait to see what happened next for them all but this second book did not fully satisfy my expectations. That said I still enjoyed it, just not as much!
The story ends with a terrific senario for a third installment....I can't wait for it to be written and narrated.

    "Jumping the shark..."

The first half of this story is very good, the second, well, not so much.

The first half is a very detailed and "realistic" account of survival in an undead world. Gritty, in-depth and with few of the "why the hell did you do that?" moments which seem to afflict this kind of fiction.

There are two fundamental problems within the second half as far as I'm concerned.

Firstly, it jumps the shark. For those not sure what this means it refers to an episode of Happy Days in which the Fonz literally jumps a shark on a surf board. The phrase has now become synonymous with the idea of going past the point of no return as far as realism is concerned. As soon as this jump occurs 2/3rds of the way through a lot of the tension is lost because you know there's no real danger anymore.

Secondly, this jump opens up an entirely separate, potentially crucial story thread which is just ignored. It may be addressed in the planned sequel but the lack of focus on it seemed strange within this novel.

Worth reading but a bit of a let down.

    "Excellently developed sequel."
What did you like most about Day by Day Armageddon: Beyond Exile?

I figured it would be more of the same but he developed and threw in plot directions that I didn't expect and have never experienced in post-apocalypse fiction.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This is a journal account from one person's perspective. So I cant comment on character as the driving force of this book... and what makes it so very different from other zombie books... is the journal entry format which places greater emphasis on survival, preparation and the world its takes place in.

Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes - Hyperion. Think he was the soldier Fedmon if memory serves. This performance is excellent and does the story justice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    I did.

    Any additional comments?

This takes the original and adds totally new and creative aspects. As said in my review of the first, if you like post-apocalypse fiction, doomsday preppers and found footage movies you'll love this.
