Critic reviews

"There is zombie fiction and then there is crawl-out-of-the-grave-and-drag-you-to-hell zombie fiction. Day by Day Armageddon is hands down the best zombie book I have ever read. Dawn of the Dead meets 28 Days Later doesn't even come close to describing how fantastic this thriller is. It is so real, so terrifying, and so well written that I slept with not one, but two loaded Glocks under my pillow for weeks afterwards. J. L. Bourne is the new king of hardcore zombie action!" alittle stiff but that's the point right

with the military background of the main character it really sets a nice level of story telling that I didn't know if I'd like but it worked on such a level I'm getting the entire series.

Finally, Someone gets it right!

What made the experience of listening to Day By Day Armageddon the most enjoyable?

The story is very well told. Each day in the journal builds and builds.

What did you like best about this story?

My favorite part about the story is that the characters are very believable and you find yourself questioning your own survival tactics.

What does Jay Snyder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator does a great job. This book doesn't need exaggerated voice acting. It feels more real that way.

If you could take any character from Day By Day Armageddon out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The author! He is outstanding!

Any additional comments?

Give this book a chance! You will be happy you did. --> StevenX

A refreshing take on the zombie apocalypse genre

What made the experience of listening to Day By Day Armageddon the most enjoyable?

JL Bourne brings a nice twist with the first person account of this end of the world scenario. This allows for characters to be developed over time instead of feeling like every aspect of the story is forced upon you. Also, the medium to long entries made it perfect for stopping and starting during my commute vs. long chapters.

What did you like best about this story?

Rather that sitting on the sidelines reading a book, you feel like you're a part of the story because of the journal style. With each entry there is a sense of anticipation since the narrative is happening in a delay since because the journal is a day behind the action.

Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first book with Jay, although I've already downloaded the next in the series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Actually, no. This book is great to enjoy over the course of days. The format is well suited to this and it gave me time to think about, process and anticipate the next part of the story.

Any additional comments?

I didn't learn that author J.L. Bourne was an active military serviceman and wrote the books while deployed, but after i did, I appreciated the stories even more. Thank you J.L for your service.

Zombie survival!

If you liked World War Zone then you probably will like this. Takes a nice realistic approach to the survival needs and human nature's that might exist if a Zombie apocalypse occurs.

A great story from an unusual viewpoint....

I have to admit, at first this alternative style of storytelling was a little off putting to me. I am used to having SOME idea of what the supporting characters are thinking or feeling ... SAYING at least. In this format all you get is the writings in a daily journal by the hero of the story. However, after becoming more used to what to expect, I found myself really enjoying this style! Jay Snyder does a fantastic job of narrating, and brought the story to life, while still giving the somewhat clinical descriptions of what has happened that a few hours of distance would give. The ending is extremely abrupt, forcing the listener into buying the next in the series to get any kind of closer at all.....but I am up for it!

Good storytelling, but light on plot

What did you love best about Day By Day Armageddon?

I enjoyed every minute of the book. Bourne can really spin a yarn, but I found the plot quite flat. It was just a string of this guys experiences with no major revelations, and I felt the book ended very abruptly and early.

That said, I still really enjoyed reading the book. Glad there's a sequel!

Can you Survive?

If you could sum up Day By Day Armageddon in three words, what would they be?

Zombies done right.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Day By Day Armageddon?

I think that the undead become more intelligent after nuclear strikes in cities across America by our leaders.

What about Jay Snyder’s performance did you like?

Very concise, good flow, and captivating.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The day the world dies.

Any additional comments?

The author writes an interesting journal-diary approach to a zombie infestation of the world. It is interesting how our hero of the story accounts for his day to day survival and encountering others who he tries to keep alive. It was very interesting and hard to put down.

Best "Classic" Zombie Series

Would you listen to Day By Day Armageddon again? Why?

The Day by Day Series is by far the best zombie series to date. I listen to it every few months on my long car trips. J. L. Bourne has captured the classic brainless undead style zombies while introducing joggers in an interesting scientific way. I had searched for as many zombies novels as I could after reading Max Brooks World War Z book and stumbled upon this. No disrespect to Mr. Brooks he told a great story but this series quickly became my favorite. I recommend to anyone and everyone I can!

What does Jay Snyder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jay Snyder is the perfect voice for the part. Giving Kilroy that believable military voice while really getting a feeling what he is going through.
