Critic reviews

"There is zombie fiction and then there is crawl-out-of-the-grave-and-drag-you-to-hell zombie fiction. Day by Day Armageddon is hands down the best zombie book I have ever read. Dawn of the Dead meets 28 Days Later doesn't even come close to describing how fantastic this thriller is. It is so real, so terrifying, and so well written that I slept with not one, but two loaded Glocks under my pillow for weeks afterwards. J. L. Bourne is the new king of hardcore zombie action!" Awesome

This book was a great. One of the best zombie books I've read. The main character is a pilot, so it lets you answer the question I know I've always asked, "what about getting into an airplane to escape the zombie horde?"

My first credit... first book... a winning choice!

What a great choice for a first book. I tried to limit my listening to just on my commute to/from work but I became so engrossed in the story that I finished it up in just a few days (so I upgraded my account just to get the sequel!).

If you are a fan of the AMC series "The Walking Dead", then you will definitely appreciate this book. The style of writing progresses at a fast enough pace to keep your interest and the diary entries really help you visualize what the author is describing. Jay does a great job narrating and pulls you into the story. Even if you aren't a huge zombie fan, get this book and you will be hooked on the genre!!

Well written, serious zombie book

This was a very well written and narrated book. There is no fluff involved. The tone is generally serious, yet entirely captivating. Anyone who enjoys the zombie genre will find this book engaging.

Almost 20 listens and would restart right now!!!

This is my top re-listened to book in 110 sci-fi / zombie titles in my library. I have read the hard copy as well, but the narrator hits it out of the park!!! Awesome story and narration!!!! Military guys will love it for the accuracy as well!!

Good Book

The narration was great. It is a standard zombie story but it was well told and kept my interest. Will try the next one.

GREAT STORY, PULLS YOU IN

I loved this story. Something about the way it was written and narrated, it really pulled you in and made you feel the stress of the narrator's situation. Recommend listening to in a darkened room - adds a creep factor to the story.

MINOR SPOILER:
The main character's (Naval aviator) decision to abandon his command so early in the story was flawed, but that was early on. I think the first of the story would have flowed better had the main character been a civilian, but other than that, great book.

Will be looking for more by this author.

Worth the credit

The only con about this read is that it does stop way too soon, thus the 3 star rating, but picks up right where it stopped in the next story. The story format is different but very well paced. I did read the second in the series and was not disappointed, and will be waiting for the next!

Hard to get through but not without merit

Any additional comments?

As other reviews have noted - The first half of this book is difficult to get through. The decision to write it as if in a daily dairy is clunky and for those who are not fans of the genre probably not worth the slog. Making it more difficult the narrator reads it like a grocery list. An interesting experiment in writing/reading styles gone horribly wrong.

But wait! About half way through Bourne begins to find his pace. His writing gets better and slowly, very slowly, the story follows. In addition the narrator warms up and becomes less robotic. If you can jog your way through the first half the second is a more satisfying run through zombie apocalypse survival.

The second book continues to improve and is the better of the two but you have get through this one first.

This is an entertaining series that might be worth the pain if one can get past the author's (J Bourne? Really?) early learning curve.

Love the point of view. Seemed to end out of nowhere though. Great story overall.
