Deeply Moving.

What made the experience of listening to Dawn's Awakening the most enjoyable?

This is one of Lora Leigh's best yet. I had hoped Dawn's story would be worth the wait and it didn't disappoint. Once I got started, I couldn't stop till it was over.
It is a story of survival, hope and faith. This is a deeply moving story of horrible child abuse and the emotional scars that come with it. It tells of the effect it has on her family, friends and ultimately the man that loves her. Dawn's story will break your heart, then make you rejoice with her when she overcomes her devasting past and finds happiness.

Still in my top 3 breed books

Audiobook review

Another Lora Leigh book that I had read years ago and since I had an audible credit I decided to purchase this audiobook. Dawn’s Awakening was definitely one of my favorites so I just had to get this one. What I remembered from the reading was that Dawn’s story was extremely emotional, but listening to it I had forgotten how emotional it was. The narrator, Brianna Bronte, did such an extraordinary job of expressing Dawn’s pain and the torment from Seth. I thought the narration was so awesome I had to up my star rating to a 5!

To say Dawn and Seth’s journey was bumpy is an understatement, there were so many obstacles in the way, including decisions made for them. Dawn was tortured for years, I seriously had such a difficult time imagining everything that she had endured, so I could understand some of Seth’s decisions for staying away from her but I also had some difficulties too. It was actually Dawn’s strength that changed their course. Seth was on his way of moving on, the mating heat was pretty much gone, but Dawn and her cougar was not going to let that happen. Even though I had some issues with Seth, his love for Dawn was actually consistent (the soaps!). I absolutely loved their story so much!

Having read all of the Breed books, including Cassie’s Cross Breed, Dawn’s Awakening is still in my top 3 (Cross Breed being number 1). I just may need to do a re-read of all the breed books again.

Disappointing

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really expected more from Dawn's story. It may be the weakest link in the whole series after Bengal's Heart, maybe followed closely by Lion's Heat. I think new readers may find it more interesting, but not those who follow the series.

Has Dawn's Awakening turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but when a good writer throws such a bad bone to readers, it is a real shame.

Would you be willing to try another one of Brianna Bronte’s performances?

Ms. Bronte must work on her characterization. She very nearly put me off Jonas and Cabal, and her Dawn and Cassa sound exactly the same.

What character would you cut from Dawn's Awakening?

It was not the characters so much as the unnecessary melodrama. Drama is fine, but melodrama - not so much. I think Ms Leigh ran out of good angles with this series, and if so, she should respect her own work enough to let it go.

Any additional comments?

I hadn't expected the story to drag so much, as Ms Leigh is in general capable of much better fiction than this. A shame she failed to deliver with the some of the most memorable characters - Dawn, Cabal and Jonas.

Narrator ruins male vocals

love this series, but this particular narrator can't do a strong male voice (in their prime, like all Breeds) to save her life. It really runs the audible for me, and totally distracts from the content. A perfect example is Jonas... alpha make Lion Breed in his prime, and she makes him sound like a querelous old man complaining about "kids these days!" And anyone with a non-American accent...forget it!

Edge of your seat exciting!

I’ve always preferred wolf stories best but Ms Leigh’s feline books in this series I think are so much better than her wolf ones. Still love them all, this one has so much excitement and drama in it. We learned how truly courageous Dawn has been, and the effects of true love all around. We get a hint who might be Cassie’s mate but don’t get any idea who it really is, don’t think it’s who I was beginning to think it was. We did get a surprise visit in this book. Very hot loving sex, just not quiet as erotic. Great narration by Brianna Bronte.
