Publisher's summary

Harry Dresden lives!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness.

After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill. Guess which one Mab wants first?

Of course, it won’t be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.

Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own… his soul.

Just wow.

I can't say my favorite part of the book without spoiling anything, which I refuse to do.

Butcher and Marsters together are a team made in heaven. Amazing writing as always on Butcher's part is enhanced as no one else can by Marster's masterful reading.

One of the best!

I've been a huge fan of the Dresden Files series for over a decade and usually re listen to them all from the beginning each time a new book is about to come out. Since Peace Talks just released I'm continuing my tradition. This book is one of the best in the series in my opinion and James Marsters does another fantastic job narrating it. I'm anxious to start the new book, but I must go through Skin Game first; another awesome story by Jim Butcher!

Great book!

If you could sum up Cold Days in three words, what would they be?

Same old Harry!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harry was my favorite, as usual. I love his strange sense of humor, his lack of respect for anyone who hasn't earned it, his defiance of those who seek to intimidate, and his old fashioned chivalry.

What does James Marsters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

James Marsters really brings Harry to life in a way that is truly amazing. He does a great job of expressing Harry's sarcasm, emotions, his personality. I loved the print books, but the audio version really helps make Harry more real!

Any additional comments?

Excellent book, excellent series!

May Butcher write the next book swiftly.

What did you love best about Cold Days?

I love that Jim Butcher always finds a twist and turn in his stories that grabs my attention and always makes me want to read more. His stories are exciting and well written, and even though this is the fourteenth book in the Dresden-files series I'm not even close to getting tired of it. That is something not many other authors have done.

Which character – as performed by James Marsters – was your favorite?

James Marsters interpretation of Toot the Fairy is priceless!

It's like a reunion with an old friend

What made the experience of listening to Cold Days the most enjoyable?

Hearing the Characters as the voices should sound. All the respect to John Glover, he did a fantastic job. But after 12 books with James Marsters it was like a cold unpleasant shower hearing Mr. Glover's rendition during Ghost Story. I'm very happy that James Marsters is back.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I guess I'm most shocked at the arc that Mab took during the story. She's still not exactly a sympathetic character, but we find out that there is a whole heckuva lot more about her than just "mean powerful woman obsessed with Harry". She has much more depth now in my mind. I also have to mention Molly. I've always loved the relationship Harry and Molly have developed and now I'm super excited to see where it goes from here. But holy cow... can you even imagine what Charity is going to say?

What does James Marsters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I read the hardcover first. After listening to James read 12 books to me the voices are indelibly stuck in my head. It's like a comfy house coat and big fluffy slippers when James reads Harry. It's just not right without him.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Harry's Back! And Hell has frozen over!

Any additional comments?

I'm glad Mr. Butcher brought James Marsters back. And I'm also glad he is more efficient than some other Fantasy Novelists out there (*cough* G.R.R. Martin *cough*). Even so, I crave to find another Modern Urban Fantasy that approaches the enjoyment level the Dresden Files have always given me. And I am already eagerly looking forward to book 15! I hope the series never ends! Long Live Harry Dresden!
