Harry Dresden lives!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness.

After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill. Guess which one Mab wants first?

Of course, it won’t be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.

Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own… his soul.

Winter Knight goes Head to Head against Santa!

Jim Butcher does it again! and Excellent story that threads past books together and leaves you on the edge of your seat. James Marsters reads it like you are riding along with him on the Back of Murphy's Bike.

Outstanding

With many of this series, I finish the story and think, this one has to be the best one yet. Again my thoughts, and I can’t wait to dive into the next one. Audio performance was brilliant as always.

Continues to add profanity

Adds profanity in conversations that it totally sounds forced. Never noticed that in the first several books. Great author, great story, great performance.

There is a lot going on in this kext chapter in the Dresden Files. Harry is back from the dead but he might not wish it were true as the weight of the world rests more on his shoulders tham ever before.

I'm so glad James Marsters is back! But Cold Days is the best Dresden book yet and possible one of the best books I have ever read or listened to.

What other book might you compare Cold Days to and why?

I can only compare these books to the lord of the rings and game of thrones but better

Showdown On The Island

Harry awakens back to life and into months of rehab with Mab. And this is not a nice, safe hospital stay. This is Arctis Tor, the capital of the Winter Court of Faeries. What a welcome back from the dead! What a start for Harry's new job as Winter Knight.

"Cold Days" is a pretty good book. We get another peek into the world of Mab and the Winter Court. Then we hear Mab give Harry his first order as her knight. "Kill my daughter. Kill Maeve." If it wasn't for the winter mantle, Harry's heart might have turned to ice at those words.

This is one of the most straight forward tales of the Dresden Files. Harry doesn't run around like a chicken with his head cut off, trying to decide which way to turn. He seeks out help and guidance from several characters, but his path is a straight one. He wants to understand why Mab would make such a request. He needs to decide if he's going to obey her. Mostly, he needs to know who's telling the truth and who's lying - even if they don't know they're lying.

Mouse, Toot Toot, Thomas, Molly, Murphy and more become enlisted in Harry's latest battle of good vs. evil. As in real life, some of the lines between the two get a little blurry.
