Harry Dresden lives!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness.

After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill. Guess which one Mab wants first?

Of course, it won’t be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.

Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own… his soul.

Definitely a good listen

Jim Butcher can definitely reel you into a story and keep you there. This book is entertaining. The series is definitely getting a little darker. Butcher is getting a little earthier but I enjoy that. It makes the characters more real.

James Marsters will forever be Dresden s voice

love this series, love James Marsters. totally worth it. the first few books in this series start out as if they were written by numbers, but that is just to set the stage for the epic adventures that Dresden has in the later ones.

Awesome

Things are starting to come together to who is behind the Grey Council.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome of the ending will be.
I think this series is sadly ending but hope I am wrong.
Marsters was again the best Harry ever.

Just Awesome

Please, Jim Butcher, stay healthy? We're only a little more than 1/2 way through your planned Dresden series, and there's so much more to experience.
Now, that aside, this was exactly what I was hoping for in this book. Great dialog, a gripping story, a few nicely placed story line twists, and an ending that just blew me away. Nice to hear Marsters back as the narrator, although I was one of the few who was fine with John Glover's performance in Ghost Story. I'm definitely going to go back and give this another listen in a few months as there were some parts of it that I need to confirm before the next installment, so that should give an accurate representation of my opinion of this book. If you're not a Dresden fan, go back and give the first few books a listen. They are more or less "stand-alone" novels up until around book 7, then they really fall into place as an ongoing epic. Cold Days reinforces that movement very well and has me salivating at the thought of book 15 next year!

A Strong Start To The Second Half

Jim has outdone himself with "Cold Days" the 14th book of The Dresden Files. for me i found 2012 as a slow year for science fiction and urban fantasy books; with only a few authors rising to the challenge of excitement, plot drama, and taught provoking characterization etc. Jim not only wrote an interesting and well taught-out continuation within an epic series, but as also taken the characters within Cold Days to another level of maturity, knowledge, and power. The Best S.F/Urban Fantasy Book of 2012.

In "Ghost Story" we saw the death of harry, and how his friends and family has grown and changed without him been there to support them; we also saw the many consequences of his actions in previous books, with the worlds of magic and the many territories belonging to the supernatural changing rapidly; many things were also eluded to and explained. book 13 was the beginning of the metamorphosis of the dresden files.

The Second Half
i found that all the characters in "Cold Days" were more mature and natural, allowing the story to flow at an easy, well develop pace; we saw many new beginnings, second chances and endings; also the expansion of the Dresden universe where many mysteries dealing with the island Demonreach, the courts of faerie, and finally the outsiders were explained.

i was happy to see how molly as turn her life back on track and as matured into a caring person, and competent wizard. BIG CHANCES FOR HER

His half-brother Thomas has also grown in support and love for is brother, it was funny listen to them argue. A WELL BALANCE LIFE

but the crown goes to the queen of winter Mab, who for me was the best character written about in the story; i now see her in a different light and dimension, showing the complexity of Jim butcher's Characters. JIM NEVER DISAPPOINTS HIS READERS....

So many cool things my mouth is still agape.

If you love urban fantasy, snark, and nods to fandoms but you haven’t read or listened to the Dresden Files, do yourself a solid and begin them. Honestly, there is so much to love from the humor to the nail-biting moments. Oh, don’t read the synopsis or this review. Spoilers darling!

Harry is back and surprise, surprise, even in death he cannot escape promises made to the Queen of the Winter Sidhe. Oh, and that island with the weird leylines…. bad shit is happening. Yikes! And that my friends is why I devour an eighteen hour audio in three days.

We spend some creepy time in Fairy whilst Harry heals before returning to Chicago days before Halloween. Mab has given him an impossible task.. He has a shiny new car and plans to handle everything without contacted his friends. As if….

The tale that unfolds has battles, confrontations with friends and family, hostages and surprises. Molly has some impressive stuff going on and before it is all said and done, we will ride with the hunt! It isn’t hard to see why Cold Days was a Goodreads Choice Winner. Hells bells it rocked.

James Marsters is the voice of Harry and these characters. He adds an extra level of enjoyment to an already brilliant story.
