decent quick story

pretty decent, if kind of generic. I still want to know what happens though... the narrator was good, but didn't seem to give the right emphasis for emotional scenes.

Young Adult Fare

I gave this a try after finding it available in the Plus catalog, and would have been dissatisfied had I purchased it.. I stopped listening at Chapter 8. Not to be unkind, but presumably this is a first novel--it certainly reads like one, at least, right from the start, which is why I was unwilling to invest time into it until the end.

Audible should do everyone a favor and label this as a Young Adult work--I might have enjoyed it at 16, but not at 60.

Narrator: please check your pronunciation of Rigel--I've never heard it pronounced that way.

Needs more

What about Chris Patton’s performance did you like?

Well read.

Any additional comments?

The story itself was a great beginning and left me wanting more but, unfortunately, it was far too short and very incomplete. I looked for a sequel (or the next installment) but could not find one.

Podium, you owe me the next two

It's a good start for a trilogy. Kinda sad that book 2 and 3 don't have an audiobook version because the narrator is great.

Intriguing, invigorating, adventurous

This book has an intriguing aspect of a New World, new adventures, and new life forces with old and young, working together to achieve a common wealth goal for themselves and their planet, great read, adventurous, intriguing, and most of all insightful

Formulaic beyond belief; writing seems like a parody.

This was like a parody of the worst imaginable scifi. Don’t get me wrong; there are some things that are formulaic that I enjoy, and many masterful works I hate because those are often so depressing that they make you consider hanging yourself. There was plenty of depressing material in the Witcher series, but it was (in my humble opinion) first-rate sf. This dreck isn’t even good fanfic.

It wasn’t merely dreadful, but dreadful in that melodramatic way that makes it almost painful to listen to, especially when read by a narrator who gives it the melodramatic reading that it calls for, but which it does not deserve.

It isn’t the worst thing I have ever listened to. But then again, I don’t generally bother to finish anything that is worse.
