Publisher's summary

Springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white.

While armies march, heads roll and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king. War may be hell but for Monza Murcatto, the Snake of Talins, the most feared and famous mercenary in Duke Orso's employ, it's a damn good way of making money too. Her victories have made her popular - a shade too popular for her employer's taste.

Betrayed, thrown down a mountain and left for dead, Murcatto's reward is a broken body and a burning hunger for vengeance. Whatever the cost, seven men must die.

Great read. Maybe a bit longer than necessarily.

If you could sum up Best Served Cold in three words, what would they be?

Funny, unexpected, violent

Who was your favorite character and why?

Friendly. Slightly autistic, fanatical number counter, vicious killer, very different and refreshing view on the way the world works.

Which character ??? as performed by Steven Pacey ??? was your favorite?

All of them. Nicomo Cosca, Monza, Shivers esp! Pacey is an excellent narrator, made it a very enjoyable experience.

Any additional comments?

This was a good read, maybe a little longer and more convoluted than necessary, but excellent after the long haul. I enjoyed the Bloody Nine's book a little more, but he has come into his own as a writer in this volume. There where a few times when I almost put it down and didn't pick it up again, and spent about 2 weeks without reading any of it. However I am glad I finished it. His characters are all well rounded and surprising. I really enjoy his very unexpected little twists and turns. Great irony, great characters./ Friendly was an especially enjoyable character.

Well worth a read.

Revenge revenge revenge

I finished the first law trilogy before listening to this and it was a good follow up. Characters and events from the trilogy are referenced which makes you feel like you know the story. I love the narrator's way of making the different characters come to live.
One of the downsides with this book for me is that I don't really get the sex scenes.. They feel a bit forced so to speak? I dunno

Warm feelings for such a cold serving

What did you love best about Best Served Cold?

Loved how he integrated a great standalone story with previous characters from the First law trilogy. It was a fantastic way to tie the book into the previous ones while still maintaining its independents.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Best Served Cold?

Loved the cameos of characters from the First law trilogy which shed more light on them and the unexpected direction he took in this book.

What does Steven Pacey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Stevens Narration breathes life into these characters like no other. Hes quickly becoming my favorite narrator. He gives each character a distinguished voice and accent that's easily Identifiable and with an acute interpretation of their personality with his read.
