Publisher's summary

The second book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

Wherever the historians go, chaos is sure to follow....

Dispatched to Victorian London to seek out Jack the Ripper, things go badly wrong when he finds the St Mary's historians first. Stalked through the fog-shrouded streets of Whitechapel, Max is soon running for her life. Again.

And that's just the start. Max finds herself in a race against time when an old enemy is intent on destroying St Mary's. An enemy willing, if necessary, to destroy History itself.

From the Hanging Gardens of Nineveh to the murder of Thomas a Becket, via an unscheduled dodo rescue mission, join the historians of St Mary's as they hurtle around History on more hilarious, hair-raising escapades.

A great heroine, much hilarious satire

What made the experience of listening to A Symphony of Echoes the most enjoyable?

The heroine is both a leader but able to see the absurdities of the working world

Any additional comments?

I hope Jodi Taylor continues with this series , and Audible l keeps recording them!

Fun female version of Indiana Jones

I had a lot of fun listening to the story and narrator. Full of actions, historical moments, travel back in time scientific research and equipments, love, tears, deaths, .... Female version of Indiana Jones. It was hard to put the book down. Make sure to start the series in sequence in order to understand and enjoy all the characters and backgrounds. Going on to volume 3!

Just one damn good book after another!

Have now finished book 1, "Just one damn thing after another', and book 2, A symphony of Echoes. Here I am up at 9pm buying book 3 because I can't wait to hear more. These books are wonderful, and Zara Ramm's wonderful read is a big part of it. I love the history time travel aspect of this, and have grown to love all the characters that Zara Ramm gives life to. The books are funny, exciting, and I l can highly recommend.

Unpredictable and exciting.

Main character is delightfully imperfect.

Complex, humorous, action packed and balanced with serious emotional moments.

Fun, interesting, well written and well performed.

I’m having a nice time with this series. It’s fun and entertaining. It’s interesting and well written and well performed. And bonus, since the historic things in the story are factual, in the midst of being entertained, i am learning history. This series is definitely worth a listen. It’s great it’s a series. Instead of being disappointed at the end of a book because it’s over and there isn’t any more. This is a series and when you are done with one book you can start with another and then another and keep enjoying. Each book is unique and exciting in it’s own right. Enjoy.

Great book that I can't put down!

Would you listen to A Symphony of Echoes again? Why?

Yes. I would listen to it again. Jodi Taylor, with Zara Ramm narrating, make a long commute into the beltway of DC, almost enjoyable! I actually look forward to a bit of traffic so that I might get to finish a chapter or two.

What does Zara Ramm bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her lovely English accent. Even when I read a paper copy of a book, such as Sherlock Holmes, I don't hear it that way in my head.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was not expecting to be on the edge of my proverbial seat while listening. The author has created a story, and characters that I actually feel emotion for! Without giving away too much, there is (let's call him/her a villain) that I always hope Max and the gang actually hurt! (lol)
I find that I feel happy when the characters return from a jump; I feel sadness when something happens that is sad; and I feel anger for the main protagonists when someone wrongs them. I don't feel emotions like this for all books...

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to delving into the next book in the series!

This series is SPECTACULAR!

As a history double major in undergraduate, I adore books with a fun twist on historical events. This one starts out with a take on Jack the Ripper you'll just never see coming and the roller coaster doesn't stop.

I am on my 2nd or 3rd listen to this book - working my way through the series again, as I listen to old favorites while I work - and I am still so in love with the characters and the story. Jodi Taylor has created such a strong and feisty yet flawed and human character in Max - I love seeing such a great woman as the center point of a great series.

Zara Ramm's narration perfectly embodies Max's emotional life, especially her sarcasm and self deprecating humor. I could not ask for a better reader for this character and book.

I have been recommending these books to everyone I know. So - grab the first one, read it, and move quickly onto the second. You'll be hooked.
