Publisher's summary

Quirky and fun-loving American heiress Daisy Bowman is the last unmarried Wallflower. Her exasperated father has informed her that if she can’t find a husband by the end of her third London season, she will be forced to marry a man she hates - the ruthless entrepreneur Matthew Swift.

Daisy is horrified. A Bowman never admits defeat, so she decides to do whatever it takes to marry someone...anyone...other than Matthew. What she doesn’t count on, however, is Matthew’s unexpected charm, or the blazing sensuality that soon flares beyond both their control. And Daisy discovers that the man she has always hated just might turn out to be the man of her dreams.

But when a scandalous secret is uncovered, it could destroy both Matthew and a love more passionate and irresistible than Daisy’s wildest fantasies.

Decent story but…

Having A non American narrator try American accents is disturbing. In this one a Boston accent comes across like a Brooklyn gangster. Annoying in the extreme. This I have heard from a number of them and really ruins the narration.

The narrator is spot on!

I don’t know what the complaints are all about unless people don’t know what New York accents sound like. Mary Jane Wells is great! It sounds to me as if she is telling the story instead of reading it. If she has always been your favorite and suddenly you don’t like how she presented this one, maybe you’re a little rigid in your expectations and are not allowing room for a true artist to practice her profession. In any case, Kleypas and Wells are an unbeatable pair. This book was well worth my credit!

Another strike!

I loved this book. Loved the narration. I especially appreciate the effort of Kleypas to keep her characters believable in the time period and as always it works.

Humorous

Simple, straightforward plot with hero and heroine roles defined and fun to follow. The narrator was excellent as always

Painful American accents

I can’t say that this was my favorite of the wallflower series. It was fine. The male American accents were painfully bad - the New York accent was borderline offensive, and the Boston accent was not a Boston accent. They were hard to get past, even though the rest of the book was beautifully read.

Loved loved loved

No surprise here… Another great book by Lisa Kleypas … I thought I would miss the British accents of the main characters but once again Mary Jane Wells continues to be my favorite narrator. Can’t wait to read the next one that just came out today!

Terrible narrator

Great story, narrator is very irritating! She takes all the humor and character out of the story

Entertaining

I have found that Lisa Kleypas books have gotten better through the years. Some parts had me feeling that peices were left out, but overall a great story, as usual

Mary Jane Wells + Lisa Kleypas = Perfection

I adore this book, as well as almost anything by Lisa Kleypas. Mary Jane Wells is so talented and brings everything she narrates to life!

What I didn’t love… First, the story itself is a bit slow in parts. Second, there are times when you just want to smack the crap out of the older sister and tell her to mind her own. I know she’s supposed to be overbearing, but the icing is a wee bit thick.

What I loved… First, Matthew. I love Matthew and he is perfect for Daisy. I really like their story! Second, EVERYTHING ELSE! I truly enjoyed this book! It’s romantic, but not cheesy. (I cannot stand the romance books where the H/h are sobbing as they say I love you.) It’s funny. There are parts where I laughed out loud.

There are 3 or 4 sort of graphic intimate scenes, which is not a criticism. More of a heads up. Personally, I think Lisa Kleypas is wonderful at writing sexual scenes that feel intimate and passionate. They’re descriptive enough to heat up the oven but not so descriptive that they cross over into adult toy land/erotica.
Overall, very nicely done Ms. Kleypas and Ms. Wells!
