Publisher's summary

In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears… into 1743. The story unfolded from there in seven best-selling novels, and CNN has called it "a grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]." Now the story continues in Written in My Own Heart's Blood.

It is 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife; his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is; and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie's wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.

The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in 20th-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family's secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy - never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.

Written in My Own Heart's Blood is the brilliant next chapter in a masterpiece of the imagination unlike any other.

The End

What did you like best about this story?

Some one commented that they wanted more Jamie and Claire. Why? Haven't they been through enough? Suffered enough? Let Lord John or Roger or Ian or William or anybody else get their heart ripped out for a change. The house of JAMM Fraiser deserves some peace.

Any additional comments?

Can I just say that I truly admire, worry for and cheer for Jem! I refused to go to bed until he was safe. And I was up nearly til sunrise for just that reason. Loving every minute of it. That being said, I feel like every cliff hanger from Echo was resolved to my satisfaction in MOBY. So outside of Briana's bag, what is there left for me to be want? To Ms Gabaldon and Ms Porter, I say BRAVA!

Absolutely Fantastic! Ms. Gabaldon rocks it!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Written in My Own Heart's Blood to be better than the print version?

Davina Porter Does her typical wonderful job in portraying the beloved characters we've all come to love, however I never consider audio either better or worse. Just another way to get the story. I often like to read it myself first then listen to it again while doing stuff around the house or driving.

What did you like best about this story?

I love that we get a lot of Jamie & Claire.. they are the main focas verses having so much of the side stories getting more time. I also love getting more of Ian, he has stolen my heart & become my next fav after Jamie & Claire of course! I also am so saddened by the loss of Rollo.. I was so hoping we'd find out he had a cute little girlfriend he'd been sneaking off to ummm see & maybe leave behind a few babies...but no, no suck luck. Sorry Ian!!!

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

The woman, I truly wish they would use men for men & woman for woman. I don't understand why this isn't done, it really would make the whole experience so much more real & wonderful, I couldn't imagine how awesome this book would have been if you had Davina Porter & Jack Laflour doing the characters?? Any audio book would be 100% better if they did the men by a man & woman by a woman IMO. Anyway, Davina does a very good job doing her characters & puts in all the emotion & nuances into them that one would normally put in when reading it themselves.

Any additional comments?

If you like history at all, if your into anything Scottish or if you just love a awesome love story then you'll want to read this series! Start out at the beginning ( Outlander) I guarantee you won't be disappointed! This is my favorite historical series of all time & I've read 1000's of books! Ohhh...it's also as accurate to history as she could keep it so you get to learn a few things too! Not too bad a deal HUH?

Sell my soul for a TARDIS

Pros: Another direct hit for Gabaldon. Without bogging down the story, she uses such lovely imagery that one feels a part of the moment. Strong character in protagonists. Strong supporting cast-both good and evil.
Davina Porter narrates Outlander books so beautifully, that characters, male and female, are easily identified, without naming. How does she do that?!
Solid series.
Cons: too long between books, but worth the wait. Hello the house!

Wonderful, like the rest of the series!

I loved this book like I loved the 7 previous ones. And, after having listened to now several audiobooks, I will also comment on Ms. Davina Porter's excellent narrating skill. I can't wait to read book #9 !
