Publisher's summary

Smite Turner is renowned for his single-minded devotion to his duty as a magistrate. But behind his relentless focus lies not only a determination to do what is right, but the haunting secrets of his past - secrets that he is determined to hide, even if it means keeping everyone else at arm's length. Until the day an irresistible woman shows up as a witness in his courtroom.

Miranda Darling isn't in trouble - yet. But she's close enough that when Turner threatens her with imprisonment if she puts one foot wrong, she knows she should run in the other direction. And yet no matter how forbidding the man seems on the outside, she can't bring herself to leave. Instead, when he tries to push her away, she pushes right back - straight through his famous self-control, and into the heart of the passion that he has long hidden away.

Narrator?

As romance stories go, this one was typical, mild mystery, lover's angst, and of course good steamy love making.
Everyone that reads romance knows it is somewhat "hoaky". That is probably wyh we enjoy it. It provides a means of wonderful escape. Having said that, I had a hard time with this narrator. I cannot say her technique was bad, or even that she did not do all the voices well. But, she made the book sound VERY hoaky. I found myself being distracted by her reading.
Yes, of course I will ready many more books by this author, but probably not if read by this narrator.

Settle in for a wonderful story

Any additional comments?

The narrators voice is a bit unique with a nice raspy tone that worked very well with the setting of this story. Since the story is set in the working class area of London, I really appreciated hearing a narration that fit. She did a wonderful job with all the different characters--I could always tell when Miranda or Smite was speaking and that is always important to me as I get distracted by my work sometimes and miss parts of the audio. At times, some characters were harder to understand, especially the ones in the courtroom, but that dialect can be hard for me to read sometimes as well. I will admit at first I was not sure if I was going to enjoy the narration, but after I settled in, I grew to enjoy the performance. I thought her accents, both male and female, worked well with the setting of this story. Overall, I thought this was a good fit for a favorite book of mine. The dialects, romance and action all were captured in a way that I found enjoyable.

More than a Romance

What did you love best about Unraveled?

I thought that the level of story telling-both the writing and performance was particularly engaging. The characters were full, the love story was compelling and the sub-plot was actually intriguing and ultimately satisfying.

What about Nicole Quinn’s performance did you like?

Nicole Quinn gave life to these characters. She told the story without getting in the way of it. She was able to heighten the impact of a very dramatic plot, while keeping it very simple and real. I thoroughly enjoyed her reading and think she is a very gifted narrator.

Narrator doesn't isn't very good

I have enjoyed the stories in this series, but this narrator is too weak compared to the others. It's distracting from the story overall. They need to rerecord it to make this book as good as the others in the series.

Audible is my jam

I've listened to literally hundreds of books. I never finished one where I didnt like the story & this one is no different. I'm afraid the problem I have with this book is the narrator. Had it not been for it being the third book in a series I would not have completed it. It was the tone of her voice, the nails on a chalk board inflections and the pronunciation that almost killed this story for me. I did finish it however because finding out the story of the third brother won out. I doubt I will even consider another book with this narrator though. Sorry if I sound harsh. This is only my personal take away.

Less than Stellar Narration

The plot is enjoyable but Quinn’s interpretation of dialogue often felt incongruous to the action at hand, I think because it lacked the emotional heart of the scene. Unlike the rest of the series, this one was narrated by Nicole Quinn rather than Rebecca De Leeuw. I found I missed De Leeuw’s narration. The incongruity between the narration and the actual emotions got to me and after a while, the scratchiness of her voice became grating. I don’t think it would have bothered me without that dissonance.

Terrible narration rough gravelly voice

I will preface this review in that I listened to the audiobook which was horribly narrated. I read some of this book on my kindle but ended up listening to most of it and trudging thru the audiobook. I don't love mistress stories and Miranda seemed just fine with it, almost too okay with it. She should have been a little disappointed and expected more out of Smite from the beginning. I did love the resolution of sibling love between the brothers. Just not my favorite book but the series was very good.

Good Story, poor narrator

What did you like best about Unraveled? What did you like least?

I greatly disliked the narrator. I have listened to the previous books in this series and enjoyed them, and got this one without looking at the reviews and listening to a sample. Bad, bad decision. The narrator made everyone sound like whiny old ladies, even the male characters.

Would you be willing to try another one of Nicole Quinn’s performances?

No way.

Any additional comments?

Many times I have listened to a book that wasn't that great a story just because the narration would so good. In this case, I didn't get beyond the first chapter before I stopped. I'll have to get this in ebook form and read it now. A waste of a good credit.

Unraveled all defenses

Would you listen to Unraveled again? Why?

Yes! was so touched by Unraveled, the way the author dealt with the moral dilemma and compassion, she is a genius. I was all ready impressed with Unveiled in regards to personal pride and the subtlety of Jessica coming into her own, but Smite and Amanda's inner strength plus the difference between Justice and vengeance, wow!! thank you, thank you.

What did you like best about this story?

The last two chapters! But the whole book was necessary for such a delight

Which character ??? as performed by Nicole Quinn ??? was your favorite?

The narrator was excellent on all of them.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cried in the final scene. The wedding present.

Any additional comments?

Sweet and beautiful with great passion.
