Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.

I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely.

Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful—a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty.

My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him-a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in.

My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story.

Sticks in my mind

Any additional comments?

Wasn't sure I would like this but it was very compelling. The author writes very well and the reader was perfect at making the characters believable. The story is a bit disturbing but I can't stop thinking about these characters. The ending was very unexpected and quite believable.

Good in a weird way

I did like this book. I couldn't give 5 stars because I feel like I shouldn't considering the whole book seems based on a girl with Stockholm's. But towards the end of the story I did find myself wondering how it was going to end. It would have been interesting to get into the mind of Julian and see what he was thinking throughout the entire ordeal.
I wish the narrator could have done more of a manly voice for the men but she still did a good job!

Stockholm syndrome and rape at its finest

So, this book, is only romantic because the male is rich. The main characters meet at a club and she is 17. When she turns 18, shortly after their meeting, he kidnaps her, and upon waking, rapes and takes her virginity. He then starts grooming her to be his submissive in a bdsm relationship, without her consent. She starts to relate pain, with pleasure and starts to fall in love with him.
This book, goes against all my feminist thinking, but, man was it good. The narration was fantastic and so was the writing. It captured the torment of her falling in love with her captor and knowing how contradictory it is. She is very self aware of the depravity of it all.
I got this book because it was included in the romance package so it was free and I thought why not, but I didn’t know it was Stockholm syndrome and rape, so be aware.

I think this actually lives up to the dark part...

Most "DARK' romances, are not usually all that dark... Well not my kinda of dark. There needs to be a level of violence with a dark romance... If you fall in-love with the H/h who is supposed to be the bad guy, in like chapter 2, well that just defeats the purpose of having a villain right..

Anyway, THIS WAS AWESOMENESS!!! A great DARK romance!!!

Our H is a totally mysterious but likeable A-hole for the things he do to the h... I was totally wrapped in the story the entire book.

It got a bit boring during the middle, but actually now that the book is over... the middle really makes sense...because where the h was being held... there was really nothing to do, but what she was doing...sooooooo...Yeah, no action required... (by golly! I think I just figured that out!)

So after the hospital, the book goes from 0.... nah, more like 35mph to 60 in the blink of an eye. I was literally pressing my ear bobs into my eardrums to make sure I heard this and that... I didn't want to miss anything! The action toward the end was that good...but then... right before the ending, the h... OMG! I just wanted to b*slap her....

Yes, by now you will totally love the H, even though you only know a pinky nail much about him,but STILL.... I felt like the h didn't deserve my perfectly badass villain... She totally broke the ultimate rule!!!

Anyway... I loved the ending, serious little girl butterflies.... Awesome job Anna Zaires... Awesome job...

The smex was just so smexy too... Love me some Alpha Man punishment!!!

Narration was not the greatest...but a far far step up from the Liaison books by Zaires on Audible. I actually wish this narrator could go back and re-narrate the Liaison books, because that series is one of my faves, that was ruined by narration... Rae did a decent job with this... Love the H voice... so smexy!

This is a totally Credit or Sale... I prefer not to buy books over 10 bucks unless its a must have... This was more like a very enjoyable have... a definite re-listen, but not necessarily a must have. Although, one could save a credit for a more enticing listen and just buy this because its not that expensive... still under 15 bucks... This book wasn't enticing like you are ready to beat someone if they disturb you...this was however, highly enjoyable... 2pts for Zaires!!

Twist Me actually had me tied up in knots

Would you listen to Twist Me again? Why?

Yes I would listen to this again, maybe on a long drive. It is such an emotional read though so I know that my re-listen won't be anytime soon.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Twist Me?

Boy, this is a tough question...I guess I'd have to say near the beginning when Julian is so obviously messing with Nora's head. Punishing her, then pleasuring her so that she comes to associate one with the other. I don't feel she was a latent masochist, Julian molded her into one with his actions.

Have you listened to any of Shirl Rae’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this is the first time I've listened to Shirl Rae so I don't have any direct comparisons. I felt she was an okay narrator, but believe she could have done better or that another narrator with a broader range of vocalization would have served the story better. I don't like when each female or male character sounds almost like all the others. If the British terrorist spoke with an European accent, well then I want to hear that accent when the character is speaking, which wasn't the case.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I did have some extreme reactions to this book in that I could actually see Nora slipping into Stockholm Syndrome and actually coming to enjoy her time on the island when in reality, with so many real life abductions of women (Elizabeth Smart, Amanda Berry and Jaycee Dugard), her experience was in no way a real-life reality. It really had my guts turning. I was angry in the end that Nora didn't recognize her captivity for what it really was and could go on actually loving the man that ripped her from her happy life and made her endure so much pain, agony, mental torment (seeing Jake nearly beaten to death) and in fact put her into danger from terrorists that she never would have experienced otherwise. And for Nora to seeming drive off into a HEA with her kidnapper was not what I wanted. I did want Julian to be dead, but knew as I was listening that that wasn't going to be the case. I wanted Nora to try harder to get her life back on track, continue with counseling and come to realize she was essentially brainwashed by a man she admitted to herself was a monster.

Any additional comments?

The prologue has me really confused all through the book and it wasn't until finished the story and went back and re-listened to it that I was finally able to make sense of it. So, I suppose it was good writing on Anna Zaires part to have it as such because it certainly added to the suspense of the story.

Deep, Dark and completely Sexy as he**

I've never read a book like this one...it pushes boundaries, it's dark, sexy, and makes you completely obsessed in the story. This is the first book of Anna's I've read and to say I'm a fan for life doesn't seem to do my love for this book justice.

Although the storyline is dark, and some would think it's unnatural to love a story so much, it shows you there's an undeniable love and connection, fascination and a spark that you'd do anything to keep with you always. Thank you for such a sexy, hot, intriguing story!

Wowzers!!!!!

Hawt, Hawt, Hawt. I don’t if I should be disturbed with myself, because I absolutely love this audiobook. The whole captive thing should not sound Hawt. But it does. I was hooked from start to finish. I need a Julian please. I can’t wait to start book 2.

Audible Romance Rocks!!!

Narrator ruined it

The narrator sounds like an old woman and it totally ruined it for me. It’s the old only thing I’ll remember about this book.

Lures you in...

I can't explain why I decided to read/listen to this book. I'm not at all into kidnapping books and I felt sick at the idea of romanticizing the awful tragedy of being taken against your will. So let me tell you---this book was an experience for me!!! It's one in which you hate to admit you liked it. In fact, it was intriguing to me. This book is very well written, and the emotional conflict of the heroine, Nora is portrayed very well. And, how can Nora not be conflicted as she is taken away from all she knew and whisked off to a tropical island where she was subjected to a sexual world she never volunteered for? Her captor, Julian remains somewhat of a mystery, even though he does share some aspects of his life. I would assume we will learn more about Julian in Book 2. Nora describes Julian as a dark angel with great wealth and who she is drawn to (since she first met him), but she knows he's dark and can't help but get sucked into his black hole. Just as reviewers on goodreads and other sites have indicated this book is very similar to the concepts of 50 Shades of Grey. Yet, there's no doubt Nora was held captive, but what she never expected was to fall, irrevocably, in love with her captor Julian. Julian has a complicated and traumatic background and he has decided against going the traditional route in wooing Nora and has decided almost like caveman-style on steroids to take her and make her his. This is also irrevocable. This book is dark, it's painful, erotic and definitely well-written. AZ has created two characters who become inseparable and there's no going back. I can't romanticize this aspect, it is what it is.

Narrator: I thought the narrator was excellent. Shirl Rae performed very well.
