Hearing is believing

Vanessa Chambers is a good voice actress and story teller. The emotions in her wide variety of voices brings characters to life.

Another Great Add to the Series

The storyline was very good. However, Vanessa Chambers voices for the different species was horrible. I can only hope she does a better job reading the next book.

The first book in the anew Species, FURY.

Have you listened to any of Vanessa Chambers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Very good, as always.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Be TRUE to Yourself.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to all the previous New Species books. This was a great addition to the series. Great story and great sex between the main players. Loved it start to finish.

My Eternal Love for New Species

After my 4th or 5th listen to the series I can say that I absolutely love all of the new species. However, I hold a special place in my heart for Darkness (1st mentioned in Fury as a blood donor) and Justice. 2 males who forever have the backs of their fellow species and True's book was an excellent example of this.
If Fury, Slade, Valient and Justice were considered world builders, True would be an example of a fully blossomed community and family. All the species you have come to love (❤ Breeze) make appearances or are mentioned here.
I truly enjoyed the lack of angst, plenty of drama, superb action, quite a few laughs (I see the bushes) but not that horrible wishy washy angst that so many writers think you need to stay on the edge.
I could seriously write all day about my love for this writer, new species is my heart and True is definitely in my top 5 of the series, but I love literally everything she writes.

Great to be "At Home again" with the New Species !

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved True which isn't much of a surprise since I love all the New Species’ books. It’s romantic, action packed and hot hot HOT... Jeanie, the leading lady, like Ellie is a fierce character. She is strong and very, very brave. Putting her life at risk to save the Species in the facility she worked at made me take an instant liking to her. I grew even more attached to her as the story progressed and we found out in more detail the things she did to help the Species will working at the facility... True, our main man Species, was just a complete sweetheart. Don’t get me wrong, he could and would snap bones if he needed to but with Jeanie he was just so caring and sweet. I fell hopelessly in love with their love. He is sensitive, beyond hot and all alpha when it comes to Jeanie. They are a brilliant couple...

What made me very happy while listening was a lot of the characters’ from previous books were included in this book - and with Vanessa Chambers Narrating it Makes me feel like i'm At Home with-in this story. :)

I’m absolutely living for the next book which I’m buzzing is for "Darkness". My God, the way he is described and just his overall presence in True made me latch onto him. I need his book ASAP Please.. :)

Good story, but...

If you could sum up True in three words, what would they be?

Sexy, angsty, martyr

What was one of the most memorable moments of True?

Going to the prison and confronting the corruption

What didn’t you like about Vanessa Chambers’s performance?

She goes from sounding like a valley girl one minute, to trying to sound like a man, but just sounding like she filled her mouth with cotton balls. She is not a good narrator. She is getting better, but her struggles with different voices for different characters can easily ruin a story. I liked the story well enough to grit my teeth through her worst flubs during the narration. She makes some of the more intelligent female characters sound like 13-yr-old girls. Oh, Tricia, I remember you are supposed to be prodigal, even if the author and narrator forgot.

Any additional comments?

I read the story and got the audio book for something to listen to as I work out or have chores to do around the house. It is entertaining enough, but I really wish they would hire a different narrator for future work. She tries, but it is not a career that she excels in. I don't know how they decided to use her for more than one work. Although, since listening to her mangle Valiant's story, this one was much better. Fewer nails on the chalk board-esque moments.

Very good addition to the series :D

4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked both Jeanie and True and their story had some unexpected twists that made things interesting and kept me engaged until the end.

Jeanie is a medical tech that got a job with the wrong company. This was after the New Species are out and everyone knows about them and she finds the lab she works in has NS as captives. Jeanie is a good woman and tries to help the NS people in the lab and also tries to get them freedom. While working on this, Jeanie meets True (who was 710 at the time) and fell for him, enduring some pain and torture herself in order to keep him alive.

When he was in the lab, True knew Jeanie as a tech but one that was kind and helped him and his people. True and his people didn't experience things like kindness so he grew to care for Jeanie. Unfortunately, the leader of the facility, while trying to gain True's agreement to something, made True believe that Jeanie worked with him and was just being kind to him in order to gain his trust for nefarious reasons. True shouldn't have believed him but since he's known humans to do just about anything to manipulate the NS, he can believe it. Soon after this the lab is raided and True and the other NS at the facility are rescued and freed.

When the story begins, Jeanie is at another lab with NS and is preparing for a raid that's coming to free the NS. She knows of a backup kill system to get rid of the NS in the lab in case of discovery and she's not willing to let all the NS get gassed. She ends up going further than she planned to save the NS captives and is shot by some of the guards of the lab. When the NSO team comes in they don't handle her carefully and considering she's bleeding out it's not a good thing. She thinks they should know she's the informant and get her help but they treat her like the enemy. It's only the well-times interference by a NS female that gets Jeanie the help that saves her life. True is now working with the NSO team that rescues NS they find captive and he recognizes Jeanie. The problem is although he has remaining softness towards her, he also believes her to be a liar. Once her wounds are tended to and she's recovered enough, Jeanie is interrogated. The main problem here is that the team doesn't believe her when she says she was the informant and certain facts don't match up. Jeanie is freaked, thinking that the agent she worked with will be able to explain everything but no one seems to know the agent she describes. Things are looking very bad for Jeanie and a panic attack leads to a sedative that turns her loopy and talkative. She spills some info and facts that convinces True that she is actually telling the truth about her being part of freeing the NS through some agent and that she saved his life (when he was still captive) at no little cost to herself. True decides he wont let her be sent to Fuller, the NS prison when all the bad guys that imprisoned or did other bad things to the NS people are kept.

True stirs some issues with deciding to keep Jeanie but Justice and the rest decide to allow it for the time being while more information is gathered. There is a bit of trouble as True takes Jeanie to his quarters as another NS male she helped in their facility also wants Jeanie. They have a bit of a dispute about it but when put to the choice, Jeanie chooses True. Jeanie fell for True when he was captive and now that he's out she's willing to take whatever she can get with him so their physical relationship explodes pretty quickly. While they are starting to explore things together, they also work with some of the other NS that love Jeanie for the caring she showed them while in the first facility. They start trying to figure out who the mysterious agent is that she was working with and trying to track him down. They have mixed luck and things aren't easy as humans manage to make an attempt on stealing Jeanie away from True right off Homeland property (the NS compound that's very secure). True is determined to keep Jeanie safe and get her to be his mate...the problem becomes that he's not real good at expressing his feelings and makes his case on why he should be her mate using the wrong encouragements. Jeanie loves True but isn't sure enough of his feelings to mate him, thinking he's only wanting to protect her out of duty. They get past this but there are worse things they have to worry about as they get closer to tracking down the bad guy. The ending has some drama and danger and a bit of "woman's gunna woop some serious butt" (which I loved!). And of course, it all culminates in to a very good HEA for Jeanie and True.

This was a very enjoyable story. I really liked Jeanie as a heroine and True was a good hero. They both were good about keeping an open mind and changing their actions when logic dictates instead of holding on to stupid stuff which I found to be a nice change from a lot of books I read now days. This was a really good addition to the series and I can't wait to see what comes next. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up. :D
