Publisher's summary

Daniel Mackenzie lives up to the reputation of the scandalous Mackenzie family - he has wealth, looks, and talent, and women love him. When he meets Violet Bastien - one of the most famous spiritual mediums in England - he immediately knows two things: that Miss Bastien is a fraud, and that he’s wildly attracted to her.

Violet knows she can’t really contact the other side, but she’s excellent at reading people. She discerns quickly that Daniel is intelligent and dangerous to her reputation, but she also finds him generous, handsome, and outrageously wicked. But spectres from Violet’s past threaten to destroy her, and she flees England, adopting yet another identity. Daniel is determined to find the elusive Violet and pursue the passion he feels for her.

Although Violet knows that her scandalous past will keep her from proper marriage, her attraction to Daniel is irresistible. It’s not until Daniel is the only one she can turn to that he proves he believes in something more than cold facts. He believes in love.

Still good but not the best in the series

I love love love Angela Dawe's voice and how well she can do different accents. She makes everything sound so dreamy and creamy. As far as the book goes there was a lot of good action and Ashley always slowly unravels the interesting depths of her characters making you grow into the characters relationship with them. I didn't like this one as much, though. The woman being a lot older than the man killed it for me. She pointed it out so many times I couldn't just let it go and it bothered me the entire time. Other than that it was a good story.

A great ending to a great series

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Daniel and how he grew from each book

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoy her performance it took awhile but I think she is great and would listen to her again and again. She has a certain style her own and it's great.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not this time. But it was enjoyable listen

Any additional comments?

A great finish to the series. Ian gets you pulled in at book one which was my favorite. But I enjoyed them all with no regrets.

I LOVE The MacKenzies!

I was so excited to see this one at last in the Audible library. The story moves on to Daniel, the untamed son of Cameron. Of course there is a book missing about Lloyd Fellows, the illegitimate brother of the Mackenzie's, so this is a few years down the road from the last book in the Audible library.

Danny becomes infatuated by a fortune teller that has many persona. She was fairly tragic and damaged, and of course all of the MacKenzies come to the rescue in one way or the other.

Some times Angela Dawe's narration gets a bit - formula, but she does all of the voices very well and if I could, I COULD take a break. But I couldn't. :)

This is an excellent series and I was extremely happy to accidently stumble across the latest offering. I recommend it; I will be listening again. As a matter of fact, I might just start the series all over again. Very credit worthy.

Slow goodness indeed!

I love the entire MacKenzie clan but Ian, Mac, & Daniel havr always been my favorite! I knew Daniel & Violet's story would not disappoint! How can anyone not love Danny?! As with this whole series (except for Elliot & Juliana's story), I love the closeness this family shares, how much they care for one another & how they're always there for each other which you see throughout every story - from Hart down to the littlest MacKenzie. 😊

Loved Violet

Read/Listened for Fun (Paperback/Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.25
Story Rating: 4.25
Character Rating: 4.25

Read It File It (short review): The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley has one of my favorite romance troupes: Man falls in love with woman because she creates things (mathematical or engineering)that impress him. This is especially true in Historicals where women were mostly trained to not show their smarts. I fell in love with Daniel awhile ago and loved seeing the "nosey" Mackenzie women. I do believe that Violet will fit right in :)

A few more thoughts but they are spoiler in nature:

[There is a troupe in this one that might not work for everyone but if you are a fan of the Mackenzie series then you know that at least one person in every couple is damaged. In this case, it is Violet. You may not like that she is a con-artist but she very much has her reasons. They are valid and I had no problem with her profession. However, it is something to note if you have a problem with dishonesty in a character. (hide spoiler)]

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Angela Dawe /Length: 13 hrs and 52 mins

I am an Angela Dawe fangirl (I think y'all know that by now)! She totally nailed Violet and Daniel. Even though I read most of this book (I was out and about without my audiobooks), I made sure to listen to a couple of hours! I wish I could have spent the whole time with the audiobook!

Finally....

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wicked Deeds of Daniel MacKenzie to be better than the print version?

I didn't read print but I love the way it was narrated that I wouldn't want to read it in print.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wicked Deeds of Daniel MacKenzie?

The balloon ride, putting mom in her place and winning the car race to name a few...

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

She does well making each character have their own voice even from the previous books and maintaining through entire series which is quite the feat!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I only stopped to sleep!

Any additional comments?

I might read one more but I feel Daniels story kinda rounded out the series for me but I could be wrong

I loved it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Daniel is a changing man in a changing time. He loves his motor cars and other gadgets. He needs a special kind of girl and he finds her in Violet.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Daniel of course. He is so caring, kind, tender yet tough.

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. It was as wonderful as all her Mackenzie Novels.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A romance across the continents.

Any additional comments?

Great story, Great narrator.

Just when I thought it couldn't get better.......

Where does The Wicked Deeds of Daniel MacKenzie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I think this was my favorite of all. I laughed continuously, it was a little "what next??", and I cried like a baby towards the end, for reasons I won't tell you because it will ruin it!!!

What did you like best about this story?

What's not to like about Daniel and Violet? Both have had heartache and hardship in their own ways. Neither let it hold them back. Then they find each other. And when you think the situation is hopeless....it's all ok. Daniel is the best of the best MacKenzie's.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

EVERYTHING!! I love listening to her and her interpretation of the story. I love her characters and how they all come to life to wonderfully through her voice. I could listen to her all day!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Fun, free, riveting, heart wrenching and then warm and fuzzy!! It's got it all and you'll want to see it again and again for the good feelings and the road to get there!!

Any additional comments?

Even if you are not a fan of historical romance, this series is worth the read. No two books are alike, the women are independently strong, warm, giving, loving, and charismatic. The men are masculine, sexy, playful, trouble-makers, and adorable! So worth the read/listen. So hard to put down and I know I'm probably going to listen to them again and again.
