Publisher's summary

Hoping to escape unwanted celebrity in the aftermath of a notorious incident, Ramsey Hunt settles in the Rockies, determined to bury himself in the safety of a solitary existence. But his isolation is shattered when he stumbles upon a small girl unconscious in the high-altitude forest.

When strangers pursue Ramsey to his private meadow in an attempt to kill him and the girl, he's mystified that anyone would wish her harm. And the child can't shed any light on the subject: she's mute.

Molly Santera, the girl's mother, catches up with Ramsey and her daughter, mistaking her daughter's savior for a kidnapper. But soon Ramsey's real role becomes clear. With the strangers in pursuit, the trio flees to Chicago for sanctuary. Even there, however, the child's enemies prove as relentless as their motives are baffling.

With an unexpected assist from FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock (last seen in The Maze), Molly and Ramsey begin to unravel the clues, and in the process they make an astonishing discovery as to the true nature of the target.

Listen to another FBI Thriller.

so what if Emma was a target? Too slow

Basically good characters, liked Ramsey, and Emma is adorable and really smart, and Molly is cute...but so what.?...so dragged out, couldn't wait for something to happen...everyone seems to be waiting....and end is just too predictable!

The Target

Love this series and that is why this is a revisit for me this time in audio form. Judge Ramsey Hunt is on vacation in the Colorado Rockies after an event in his courtroom that left him needing to get away for a while. He comes across an abused little girl who is obviously traumatized but he takes her in but when her mother shows up sporting a gun right after they had been shot at and Ramsey hurt. Good thing Emma comes out of her stupor and talks to call off her mother or she may have shot Ramsey. The three of them set off across country while being chased and hunted. So many twists and turns and thrills make up this story. Great narrator!

Really good

I enjoy most of her work. This one I liked more than most. A little sappy but good.

Child abduction revenge

There were parts of the story I couldn’t get into. The romance didn’t really seem to be there. It was difficult for me to understand whether Ramsey had any feelings for Molly. He just seemed to want to keep Emma in his life. That detracted from the overall story for me.

The Target Good but not great

The storyline was good. I enjoyed the action scenes. The characters could have been better. A federal judge who finds a beaten and raped 6 year old and decides to keep her in his cabin in the mountains for a week and not tell the police or FBI? The judge is so infatuated with the child he wants her for his own and eventually forces himself into the mother's company and mafia family? There's a judge with issues and needs therapy. A mother who is way too virginal for a twenty-something mother of a 6 year-old. A child too precious and way too chatty, I wanted to send her to boarding school! The entire cast of characters invests their lives, careers, and all their time on Chatty Cathy. Near the end of the story, the virginal mom and the federal judge, finally put the kid in her own room for a night (on their honeymoon) and have a ridiculous sex scene. I wanted to scream, "Are there any adults in charge here?"

Great

I have listen to this book 3 times and have enjoyed it each time. I love the strong mother figure and how she takes care of things on her own. The Judge is a nice balance as an appropriate father figure. The only thing that I would have changed was the fact that they married with out the Judge every saying I love you out loud.

I do not like the language that is used.

I have read & listened to many books & cringe when I hear the words. I do like the story. It is hard to distinguish some of the characters.
