Publisher's summary

The historic hotel in Boonsboro has endured war and peace, the changing of hands, and even rumored hauntings. Now it’s getting a major face-lift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect in the family, Beckett’s social life consists mostly of talking shop over pizza and beer. But there’s another project he’s got his eye on: the girl he’s been waiting to kiss since he was sixteen.

After losing her husband and returning to her hometown, Clare Brewster soon settles into her life as the mother of three young sons while running the town’s bookstore. Though busy and with little time for romance, Clare is drawn across the street by Beckett’s transformation of the old inn, wanting to take a closer look… at both the building and the man behind it.

With the grand opening inching closer, Beckett is happy to give Clare a private tour - one room at a time, in between blueprint meetings and kindergarten pickups. It’s no first date, but these stolen moments are the beginning of something that could arouse the secret yearning that resides in Clare’s independent heart - and open the door to the extraordinary adventure of what comes next....

Creepy kids

The narrator's voice on the children was frightening. Hard to listen to or take seriously. Story line around these three kids was just lacking. Ending-preposterous.

Good Nora Roberts story, but the narrator needs..

What made the experience of listening to The Next Always the most enjoyable?

Nora Robert's story writing. I like that it is about mostly everyday people.

What didn’t you like about MacLeod Andrews’s performance?

Can't vocalize women's or kids voices. Almost couldn't finish the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Want to enjoy it.

Narration leaves room for improvement

I love Nora, have read/listened to every book but the male narration and specifically this person just threw me off. He was "ok". The story is not bad, but not my favorite audio book by far.

Excellent story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have loved Nora Roberts for a number of years now and this book is completely up to her standards. Her trilogies stay in mind and keep me wondering about the characters even when I am not reading them. This book is no different. I can't wait until I get her next book in this series so I can see what happens next. I particularly love that the book takes place in Boonsboro, a place I have visited and in buildings that really exist.

Enjoyed it!

What did you love best about The Next Always?

The story was great, it didn't leave lags or any boring parts, I really liked it.

Any additional comments?

A lot of ppl said that they didn't like this series and that it seems more like she (NR) was pushing the Inn instead of telling the story. I don't agree, yes the pride in the Inn is there but it seems to come from the characters as odd as that sounds. I liked it and can't wait to read the others!

My #1 Favorite!!!

This is book one of my favorite trilogy! It’s my 3rd time reading this and I loved it as much this time as I did the first time I read it. Great narration, fabulous characters, and even a ghost thrown in for fun.. This book has everything in it that a good romance novel should have plus characters that you want to get to know better in books 2 and 3! I’ll be rereading those as well.

great story..... not sold on narrator

I've loved this series since I first read the paperback.... but wasn't sold on the narrator. he did an ok job but had some awkward and weird pausing while reading. I got over a man doing all the women's voice. that wasn't great but not bad... but the pauses where they shouldn't be almost got me. overall fantastic story by Nora Roberts and would recommend

Perfect escape into gentle romance & lite thrill!

Nora rocked it out a the park, as always with the lighthearted, gentle romance & the light thrills that have you talking out loud to the characters & having people around you, think you're nuts! :-)
Listening to MacLeod was a first for me, with this story. I found I was easily able to get lost into the characters, their feelings & immersed into the story, without feeling like I was being read to.
Mom & I have an 8 hour trip (4 there, 4 back) to see family & these are the perfect way to spend a trip while on the road!

First Of Three

Oh, I love this book! I read it non-stop.

Another winner by Nora Roberts. I found nothing lacking in this novel. Each time I read her books I am taken out of myself and deposited into whatever realm Nora Roberts drops me in.

The weaving together of all the characters in this story was fully fleshed out and the story-line was truly enjoyable.

I love "the unspoken language of Brothers". I truly hope you enjoy this well written vacation by Roberts.
