Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.
Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

I love reading and spending time with my family and friends.
yes, I loved the book and the narrator
The emotions of the events
We can all get along in peace
I absolutely loved this book. I am a Twilight fan, but this book tops all four of the Twilight novels hands down. I love the main theme of the story, it's very Ivasion of the Body Snatchers-esque. I would recommend this book to any sci-if reader or just any fiction lover.
I liked the Twilight books (guilty pleasure) so I figured I would try Meyer's other novel - Host. It was weird, and at times, confusing. Maybe this just wasnt a good book for me. I usually read epic series like: The Wheel of Time, Sword of Truth, Alerian Codex, Black Magician Trilogy, the Hungering Saga, Mistborn... etc...
So overall, I probably wouldn't buy another Stephanie Meyer book myself. However, I might listen to another one if a friend lent it to me.
The ending was so abrupt and kind of left you hanging... no hint of a sequel or any kind of real resolution.
not to me. I would have enjoyed listening to something else. But since I had purchased the book, I forced myself to finish listening to it to justify the expense. Hoping it would get better...
I absolutely LOVED this book! I wasn't sure at the very beginning, kind of slow, but it gets very interesting. I got attached to the characters and they have a really interesting dynamic. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sci-fi books and wants a new twist on aliens taking over the world.
I would listen to the host again. I read the book the first time around. Now I travel a lot for work and wanted to read it again but did not have time. The narrator is wonderful and the story is epic. Every wonder what the end of the world will be like. The Host has an idea all its own...
The most memorable moments of the host was when the alien is rememebering why they took over the planet. The most upsetting crimes were those against our children. It really struck a personal note with me.
Have only listened to the audiobook, but I thought the performance was excellent. Adding Kate Reading to my short list of preferred narrators.
The internal conversation between the host and the parasite, and the morality of being a parasite and/or a host. I like stories that show the bad guys are not totally bad and the good guys not totally good. This is an excellent story about good, evil, life, death, and what it means to be human.
She really makes the book come alive. The first one-third of the book is largely expository, so it was probably more entertaining to hear it than to read it. Ms. Reading is an excellent narrator.
OK, I'm pretty much a pushover, but that said, this book did make me laugh and get a bit misty at times.
If there was any doubt, it is now apparent that Ms. Meyer can not only write, but she has more than one story to tell.
I "accidentally" bought this book for my daughter when it first came out because she was a Twilight fan. She refused to read it, so I did. I loved it! Now that the movie is about to come out, I wanted to re-read it, but my sit down time is limited. I do drive a lot, though, so I got the audio version. I was not disappointed. Good performance. Good listen. Great story. Highly recommend it. Nothing like Twilight. Plenty of action, great plot.
No. Too long. But I did it over 4 days while driving or cleaning my house.
This was a great combination of science fiction, psycological thriller, and post apocolyptic survival story. The author's creativeness was impressive. This is one I plan to listen to (or read) again. Well worth the credit.
It was complex, intelligent, and worth digging your teeth into. The conflict between the human host and the alien soul was very intriguing. This conflict takes place entirely by thought communication between the two beings. Awesome.
Hang in there through the first scene. It is difficult to follow, but it soon becomes clear what is going on.
I absolutely loved this performance and the story line. I'm such a big fan of Stephenie Meyer and Kate Reading gave our new heroine a beautiful voice! I loved her inflection and how well she defined the secondary characters.
The story was awesome too; I was on edge, ready to see what was going to happen next with our characters ever evolving personality. The love story is captivating and easy to relate to, who wouldn't give up everything for their nearest loved ones?
The Wanderer or Wanda (as she ends up becoming), she is a kind soul (literally) and I can't help but love her too. Uncle Jeb is memerable and loveable as well.
Her voice is wonderful and easy to listen too, I love how she gives each character his/her own voice; it was easy to get lost in the story (in a good way I mean).
The very end, they just couldn't let her go! Absolutely beautiful!
I will listen to this one again sometime. Totally worth it!
I've read/listened to all of Stephanie Meyer's books. By far this is the number one for me. The story is incredible as well as the performance by Kate Reading.
I have to say, Eden is by far my favorite. Because of his compassion and the way he ends up in the story.
This one is the best.
I had it all! Laughed and cried. Even after listening to it over 50 times.
It is just a great book.
