Publisher's summary

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

Author and Storyteller - Perfect!

Didn't think I would like it...LOVED IT! The storyteller as amazing and the story is stunning! Making a decision based on the big picture, without bothering to notice all the finer details, is always the biggest mistake.

I hated "Twilight". I love "The Host".

Imagine if Pearl Buck wrote an episode of Star Trek. Maybe that's not everyone's idea of a good time, but it's mine. Based on this book, I think Stephenie Meyer and JK Rowling could be friends.

If you dearly need a story where everyone is good, nobody dies, but somehow the stakes are still very real... give this a shot. It's one that'll really last you, too.

The narrator is good enough that by the time I was halfway through, I could tell who was talking before hearing their name. All of the characters' voices sounded distinct and organic.

Great Listen, but too long

The concept is excellent, but the feel and thoughts of the characters would be just as strong with a reduction in length. Recommended Listen

I love this story every time.

This story has its own heart. In to what it would be like to be of two minds. To see opposite perspectives that fight and nash at each other. But also to be outside of that as well. Seeing it and then watching as perspectives change, to see a new reality. To be at peace while everything around is in a struggle for survival. And to see what it's like to be the one who changes it. And to see a promise that tears down all obstacles. I love this book. And vampire romance author or not. It's her best work I think. (:

Great escape

What made the experience of listening to The Host the most enjoyable?

It was a little hard to follow in the first chapter but caught my attention and left me wondering what happens next every time I had to quit listening. I haven't seen the movie yet but heard you understand it better if you've read the book. I like Stephanie Meyers and her writing/ story telling style.

What other book might you compare The Host to and why?

Twilight series but just in the love triangle aspect. Meyers writes an intriguing love story.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

Jeb was my favorite, then of course the main characters Wanda & Melanie

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I actually cried toward the end but dont want to spoil it for anyone else. If a book makes me cry it's a great book.
