Publisher's Summary

When a struggling young single mother saves the life of an elderly woman, she sets into motion a series of events that will test her strength, loyalty, and determination, all the while setting her on the path to finding true love.

Christine Eisley is the mother of seven-year-old Zach and five-year-old Haley. Her ex-husband provides little, if any, child support and makes life difficult for Christine by using the children as pawns. She works long hours as a waitress to make ends meet, but her job is in jeopardy because she's often late to work due to the unreliable teenaged sitters she's forced to use.

When Christine saves the life of a woman who works in Wilson's department store, the owner of Wilson's wants to find her, to thank her, but Christine has disappeared, losing another job once again. He sets his grandson, Jason, to the task of finding the mysterious "Christy". Jason, an accountant by trade who has lost his job to downsizing, thinks he is "above" working at Wilson's. Soon he discovers that this new task gives him more than he bargains for.

The Christmas Secret is a novel for anyone who wants to see how love is a gift that keeps giving back, that hope is a treasure that never runs dry, and that faith is a miracle that is reborn with each new day.

"I wish the Christmas Secret were still a secret"

Ugh, this was a silly, schmaltzy book. I didn't care for the main character, which set the book off on a bad note for me. There were many highly unbelievable elements to the story, like the single mom who kept complaining about how old and worn down she was (she was 27!) and the 24 year old accounting hot shot who was was being hotly pursued by top level firms. The whole thing seemed to pander to a sentimental simpleton.

That said, I was hoping to like this book. I like to "read" sweet and sentimental Christmas books during the holidays, but this one was not for me.

    "Perfect for Christmas"

I loved this listen. I am not even a fan of this genre but at Christmas things are different. Kept me interested all the way through. The way the lives of the people come together in the end is great. Highly recommended!!

Retired CFO, Army wife, Mom of five, Grandma of six, two sons who served in combat, love to read books that reflect my values and faith, love mysteries, historical, military stories, and books that don't waste my time . . . if it doesn't have an ending that was worth the wait, I'm not a happy camper.

    "Sweet Story for Christmas Time"

I love this story of single mom meets young know-it-all who comes home to the family store and has to "work for a living". The characters are like the ones all of us have met and know. That is what I like about Donna VanLiere's books. They are filled with people you could actually know. This is a great Christmas listen for families.

    "Enjoyable story"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes ( I already have!) The story is unusual with just the perfect mix of Christmas and everyday plot. The characters are people you want to get to know and are believable, real people.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Marshall - everyone wants a friend like him in their lives; wise, kind, and patient.

Which character – as performed by Donna VanLiere – was your favorite?

    Christine

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were times it made me cry, laugh, or simply smile.

    "Loved it!"

Such a feel good book with quite an unexpected ending. My husband and I listened on a trip from Ohio to Colorado and it made our day fly by!

    "Well-intentioned, but ick!"

This story might kind of get you in the Christmas mood, but there are better choices than this earnest, humorless piece of banality. The heroine is not very likeable and the plot depends upon many, many untenable coincidences. Plus there are some distracting grammatical errors such as a dangling participle and subject-verb agreement issues. The strongest aspect of the writing concerns Jason and his work with underprivileged children, which was believable and moving and _showed_ us a change of heart rather than telling us.
