Publisher's summary

An arranged marriage leads to passionate love in this classic Scottish historical romance from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood.

By edict of the king, the mighty Scottish laird Alec Kincaid must take an English bride. His choice is Jamie, youngest daughter of Baron Jamison - a feisty, violet-eyed beauty. Alec aches to touch her, to tame her, to possess her...forever. But Jamie has vowed never to surrender to a man she considers a highland barbarian.

Alec is everything Jamie’s heart has warned her against - an arrogant scoundrel whose rough good looks speak of savage pleasures. While Kincaid’s scorching kisses set fire to her blood, she is determined to resist him...until one rapturous moment quells their clash of wills, and something far more dangerous than desire threatens to conquer her senses...

Pleasant surprise.....I laughed so hard it hurt!

I'm not into historical romance novels, but I have found a soft spot for highlander stories, and this one was awesome!

Imagine a feisty English Woman ordered by her King to marry a Scot!!!! Oh yes...a nasty Scot who can't be trusted...did I mention there is this horrible rumor that he killed his first wife? Perpetuated by her own father who is sure it wasn't on purpose, just probably a beating that went too far....oh yeah....she is SOOOO happy! How will her father survive? She does all the hunting, the tax collecting, the cooking, the mediating, the protecting....sure she has 4 older sisters, and a father, but SHE is the one that runs the house!

Imagine a dominating Scottish Laird who has been ordered by HIS King to marry an English Baron's daughter!!!! Oh yes....a cold hearted always crying useless English Lady who probably can't even ride a horse! Did I mention there was a handy stable hand who told the Laird that all the lady liked to do was drink tea and pray all day?

This book made me laugh so hard my husband thought I was having an asthma attack! The dialogue between these two strong willed people was wonderful! They bait each other like an old married couple each trying to get the upper hand in their sparring match of words...so delicious! And yes, there are some steamy scenes thrown in just to make it one of the all around best books I have ever listened to. Thanks for the daily deal audible, this one I would have paid list price for!

Julie Garwood gives us another magnificent book!

The Bride, by Julie Garword, is a enjoyable love story full of likeable characters, humorous events and witty dialog. This book is fast paced and full of heartfelt scenes that will keep you smiling. The Bride is about Jamie, the daughter of an English baron, who is forced to marry Alec Kincaid, the laird of a Scottish clan. These are two people, who are completely opposite from each other. In the end, they perfect for each other. Jamie is compassionate, stubborn and determined and Alec is strong, powerful and set in his ways. This couple is brought together by royal decree and with time build a bond toward each other. Garwood does a great job of infusing humor into her love story. That itself will have you smiling and falling for all the characters. If your looking for a delicious historical romance than Julie Garwood's books are a must buy!

Great Narrration

I love all of Julie Garwood's historical romances, especially The Bride. I was very, very pleased by the narrator, Rosalyn Landor. She did a wonderful job with the Scottish accents and male voices. She definitely brought the story alive.

I Love Highlanders!!!

Julie Garwood's "The Bride" was one of my favorite books when I first read it...now listening to it in audiobook form has brought back my facination with these charcaters!! The heroine is fun, vivacious and strong willed. The hero is a mans-man ready to be bowled over by just the right woman. They are perfect together!! If you liked this book, the spunk of the heroine and the baffelment and strength of the hero, you must read "Saving Grace" by Julie as well. I sure hope they put that one on audiobook soon.

An Audible Favorite!

If you could sum up The Bride in three words, what would they be?

Delicious * Emotional * Austen-ish

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Bride?

From beginning to end, I found myself captured by this story. The Bride, by Julie Garwood is very Austen-ish in the quality of her character development and story telling. I loved this book.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Rosalyn Landor's performance is spectacular.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could not put this book down, and listened to it well into the night.

Any additional comments?

I am a devoted Julie Garwood Fan..So I was very
happy when the Unabridged version of this book

earlier books and if you haven't read any of her
historicals I recommend that you do. The Bride as all the elements that a true love story is made of.

One of the best!

This was one of the best historical romance novels I've read in a while. I was so surprised it was originally written back in 1989. Anyway, the story is well-developed and the characters are great! There is plenty of humor and an absorbing storyline that makes you feel emotionally vested in each of the characters. Even the annoying characters draw you in. The leading characters have great chemistry, and there is just enough romance to move you without making you feel like you need a shower or a cigarette afterward. This would be a great start to a series, and I hope I can find more Julie Garwood in this genre!

By the way, the narrator is top notch!
