Publisher's summary

A cowboy who wants to be a preacher... An outlaw's daughter who wants to change his mind...

On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. He's determined to escape - which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request.

For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he ended up right where he was supposed to be?

With her signature blend of humor, history, and lively western romance, two-time RITA Award finalist and best-selling author Karen Witemeyer delivers a Texas love story sure to steal your heart.

What a joy!

This is one of the best books I’ve listened to! It made me belly laugh at times and cry at others. The performance is one of the best!!

Funny, sweet, lighthearted

I almost didn't listen to this book because of other reviews on the narrator. I actually loved the narrator, I thought she was hilarious and I found myself loving this book through her interpretation

Narrator does not match this story!!

I read this book several years ago and loved it, as I have every single Karen Witemeyer book that I’ve ever read. After listening to Short Straw Bride recently, and thoroughly enjoying the Audible version, I decided to purchase Stealing the Preacher. I knew it was the same series and fully expected to hear the same narrator. I was greatly disappointed!!! This narrator has a hick accent on EVERY line in this story, whether someone is speaking or not, and makes every single character sound like Gomer Pyle from the Andy Griffith show!!! This does not do the characters justice in the least, and greatly takes away from the wonderful story Karen Witemeyer has written. I will be double checking all of my future Audible purchases to ensure they are not read by this narrator. :(

Terrible narrator!

Where does Stealing the Preacher rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story was good but it could have been excellent if the narrator was another woman!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hanna was my favorite but I also liked J.T.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She sounded like an old lady and everything was twangy. I couldn't distinguish one character from another.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole story was great.

Any additional comments?

Don't use this narrator again!

Fun story

If you could sum up Stealing the Preacher in three words, what would they be?

Great brain candy.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was fun. Crockett was a great character and Joanna was a great match. I enjoy the way Karen Witemeyer always adds a touch of excitement. Whether it's a brutal boxing match, a near lynching, or a shootout in a cabin, it's there. And it's never the same.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

She told the story well. She did great voices for the characters. But her "narrator" voice was peculiar. I was glad that she gave Joanna a feminine voice because her natural voice, the one she used as narrator, was

Cute, Action -Packed & Inspiring

Witemeyer crafts excellent characters. Crockett and Joanna are two of the best. Adding the clever opening with kidnapping the preacher and mixing in the good reason for the crime, not only makes a great read but shows a daddy healed by the Father. I didn’t care for the narrators male voices.

Bad narrator

The story was good. I did not like the narrator. The singing really was bad. She should stick to reading. I will not purchase any books with this narrator.
