Publisher's summary

A cowboy who wants to be a preacher... An outlaw's daughter who wants to change his mind...

On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. He's determined to escape - which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request.

For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he ended up right where he was supposed to be?

With her signature blend of humor, history, and lively western romance, two-time RITA Award finalist and best-selling author Karen Witemeyer delivers a Texas love story sure to steal your heart.

What a joy!

This is one of the best books I’ve listened to! It made me belly laugh at times and cry at others. The performance is one of the best!!

Funny, sweet, lighthearted

I almost didn't listen to this book because of other reviews on the narrator. I actually loved the narrator, I thought she was hilarious and I found myself loving this book through her interpretation

Narrator does not match this story!!

I read this book several years ago and loved it, as I have every single Karen Witemeyer book that I’ve ever read. After listening to Short Straw Bride recently, and thoroughly enjoying the Audible version, I decided to purchase Stealing the Preacher. I knew it was the same series and fully expected to hear the same narrator. I was greatly disappointed!!! This narrator has a hick accent on EVERY line in this story, whether someone is speaking or not, and makes every single character sound like Gomer Pyle from the Andy Griffith show!!! This does not do the characters justice in the least, and greatly takes away from the wonderful story Karen Witemeyer has written. I will be double checking all of my future Audible purchases to ensure they are not read by this narrator. :(

Enjoyed as much as Short Straw Bride

Any additional comments?

This was the perfect story to listen to over several long car rides and flights. Just as lighthearted and fun as its companion novel/precursor SHORT-STRAW BRIDE, with a new setting and new story line and new cast of characters to enjoy. This one has more of an evangelical feel to it, probably because one of the main characters is a preacher, with a dual focus on perfecting oneself and bringing others to Christ. It was fun to see more of the Archer family, this time with Crockett as the main character, and to see how a gun-slinging rancher had adapted not only to a community outside of himself and his brothers but also to his call from God. I really enjoyed the narrator, Cynthia Darlow, for this as well. I was pretty skeptical on the heavy drawl at the beginning, thinking it was too much and distracting, but by the end I loved it; it added so much to the story, considering the time period and setting.

Love the narrator

Cynthia Darlow is my all time favorite narrator. She brings so much life to the story and characters. I specifically search for books with Ms. Darlow as the narrator.

Loved it! But recommend reading the book and not audiobook

I adored this story, it was full of faith and love. However the narrator did not fit any of the characters voices at all, and it was sometimes difficult to understand what she was saying.
