Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of Something Borrowed comes a novel that shows how someone with a "perfect life" can lose it all—and then find everything.

Darcy Rhone thought she had it all figured out: the more beautiful the girl, the more charmed her life. Never mind substance. Never mind playing by the rules. Never mind karma. But Darcy’s neat, perfect world turns upside down when her best friend, Rachel, the plain-Jane “good girl”, steals her fiancé, while Darcy finds herself completely alone for the first time in her life…with a baby on the way.

Darcy tries to recover, fleeing to her childhood friend living in London and resorting to her tried-and-true methods for getting what she wants. But as she attempts to recreate her glamorous life on a new continent, Darcy finds that her rules no longer apply. It is only then that Darcy can begin her journey toward self-awareness, forgiveness, and motherhood.

Something Blue is a novel about one woman’s surprising discoveries about the true meaning of friendship, love, and happily-ever-after. It’s a novel for anyone who has ever, even secretly, wondered if the last thing you want is really the one thing you need.

"Light predictable love story ... terrible narration"

I'm sometimes a sucker for lighthearted and cheesy romance novels. This one satiates that hunger. However, the narration was terrible. First of all, while I understand the protagonist is quite a whiny pill, I refuse to believe that anyone can be that <italicized except I'm writing via mobile app> whiny.
Secondly, I made the mistake of reading along with the narration and discovered that the narrator doesn't seem to understand that italics mean to emphasize the italicized words to inflect a certain meaning into the sentence containing the italicized word.
This made my enjoyment of the novel short-lived. Which is another phrase mispronounced throughout the narrative as "short-lyved".

Therefore, if you're looking for cheesy and predictable romance, Emily Giffin doesn't disappoint. She's a guilty pleasure for me.

The narration is cringeworthy. 1 star

    "Not so good"

The book is okay, but the person reading is absolutely terrible! I almost gave up because I couldn't pay any attention to the story because of how snobby and pretentious she sounds...

    "Loved it!"

The 1st 1/2 is Darcy's recap of part 1. The 2nd 1/2 picks up when she arrives in London to stay with Ethan. So many surprising events occur. What an amazingly perfect ending.

    "LOVE"

I've read this book before and loved it then too. I think it's a great story and it stays interesting. I didn't care for the narration and found it kind of terrible. This is the 3rd Giffin book I've listened to have have hated each narration... However, about halfway thorough the book, the protagonist doesn't sound so whiny, so it was easier to listen to.

"Don't like tone of book or narrator."

I'm having trouble finishing the book. I find the breathy, whiny narration irritating. It reinforces what I don't like about the story line. Be sure to listen to a sample.

It was ok better than something borrowed. The ending was predictable. Are there plans for a movie? I hope not.

"Not as good as the first book"

The story is not as great as the first book. I just am so appalled that a character like Darcy who is so shamelessly arrogant still gets her way and ends up with a good man despite her God-awful character. Though she somewhat changes for the better, it's so disappointing that she does not find a true revelation within herself and that she still needs a man to fulfill her needs. The book is ok, but I think it could have been written better with a much more compelling plot.

    "Unlikeable main character, annoying narrator"
What disappointed you about Something Blue?

The main character, Darcy, is a vapid, narcissistic New Yorker -- we get that. She's hard enough to like, never mind tolerate. But the narrator's over-dramatization of the whining, and the gloating and the self-important tone are almost unbearable and detract from whatever depth the character might have if the reader could just let her actions speak louder than words.

Would you be willing to try another book from Emily Giffin? Why or why not?

I really enjoyed "Where We Belong," Giffin's most recent book--it had more depth. I would never have guessed the same author wrote both these books/

Would you be willing to try another one of Christine Marshall’s performances?

    No.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Two-thirds of the way through the book I began to enjoy the story, once Darcy became a better, more tolerable character.

    Any additional comments?

It's amazing how much a narrator can affect your perception of a book. I often wonder if I would feel differently if I were reading and deducing the character's voice for myself. I could see this book being a fun but mindless beach read, but the narrator really ruined it for me. A stupid thing that grated me was she would pronounce the word "lived" like "l-y-ved" as if it sounded more pretentious or something. I'm going to listen to the sample from now on!!!

"Love the Book but was disappointed by the narrator"
Would you try another book from Emily Giffin and/or Christine Marshall?

I have to say I have read, listened to and enjoyed most if not all of Emily Giffin's books. However, I found it difficult to listen to the whiny voice of Christine Marshall. It was annoying to say the least and extremely irritating to put it exactly how I felt listening to her read the book.
So I would try another book from the author only if she did not use Christine Marshall to narrate.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm going by memory since I still haven't finished listening to the book as it is narrated by Christine Marshall.
But if memory serves correct my favorite character in the book was Ethan.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I know Darcy had a very high opinion of herself and I know she could seem like a brat but in other narrations of the book I empathized with Darcy and in this one I felt nothing .

Was Something Blue worth the listening time?

Not this one, the first one yes with a different narrator.

    Any additional comments?

    Waste of money.
