Publisher's summary

Shadow Ochoa is lying low in the Kansas Territory, waiting for his fellow Texas Rangers—the Hell's Eight brotherhood—to clear his name. That is, until he's unjustly strung up for horse thieving... and pretty Fei Yen intervenes. Invoking a seldomused law, the exotic lady prospector claims Shadow as her husband and rides off with the bridegroom shackled to her buckboard.

Savvy, fearless Fei is singlemindedly devoted to her hidden claim and all it promises: wealth, security and freedom. A husband is just a necessary inconvenience and a name on paper to hold the claim she cannot.

Shadow isn't a man to take orders from anyone, especially from lovely Fei—except the friction between them ignites into nightly blazes of allconsuming passion. Soon Shadow is dreaming a little himself: of the life they could have if Fei could see past the lure of independence. If bounty hunters weren't closing in on him. If he's left standing when the impending showdown has ended....

Narrator

The narrator for this book in the series was the best so far. The other book narrators distract so much to making enjoying the story difficult

Best one yet!

I tried the Hell's Eight series, but after the third one, decided i wasn't going to continue. I don't mind steamy, erotic sex scenes, but the obsession with anal sex turned me off.
But when I saw that one of my favorite narrators was reading this one, I couldn't resist and tried it. I'm so glad I did, because it was the most enjoyable one yet.

Okay

The narrator was fine for women’s voices and narrating, good actually. But the men’s voices were awful, awful. The previous narrators of the series all gave Shadow a husky shadowy voice, and the one narrator that couldn’t do his voice is the one they chose for this book. It sometimes was downright goofy sounding and singsongy. Reminded me a little of Keanu Reeves’ character in Parenthood. Ack. Hated it.

Shadow Dragged Into the Light of Love

After a tiring year on the run, shadow stupidly decides to get drunk, loses his horse, tries to steal it back, and gets caught. Fei Yen needs protection and claims him from the hangman. Before she can prospect for her gold, she must rescue her cousin Lin, and ride to avoid capture. Shadow returns the cousins to their family, but Fei runs away to choose her own life, not knowing that Shadow is thrown in jail. Col Daniels quickly arrives to hold a summary trial and conviction, exposing himself as a collaborator with Amboy in his plots against Desi and Ari. The Eight with Zac arrive in time to break out Shadow, driving home the message that they have the right to protect him, too. In his frustration, Daniels finds Fei and uses her to lure Shadow, but also forces her to take him to her gold claim. Fei uses her skills with dynamite to escape, but barely survives the cave-in to be rescued by the Eight.
Richards does a creditable job with narration.

I really enjoyed this book.

This story keeps you on your toes all the way through. Shadow is true to form looking good and sporting an attitude. The heroine did not wine or simper like women in similar stories, which was refreshing. In all...good book, good narrator and worth your credit.
