Publisher's summary

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love.…

With the legends and lore of Ireland running through his blood, falconer Connor O’Dwyer is proud to call County Mayo home. It’s where his sister, Branna, lives and works, where his cousin, Iona, has found true love, and where his childhood friends form a circle that can’t be broken.…

A circle that is about to be stretched out of shape - by a long-awaited kiss.

Meara Quinn is Branna’s best friend, a sister in all but blood. Her and Connor’s paths cross almost daily, as Connor takes tourists on hawk walks and Meara guides them on horseback across the lush countryside. She has the eyes of a gypsy and the body of a goddess…things Connor has always taken for granted - until his brush with death propels them into a quick, hot tangle.

Plenty of women have found their way to Connor’s bed, but none to his heart until now. Frustratingly, Meara is okay with just the heat, afraid to lose herself - and their friendship - to something more. But soon, Connor will see the full force and fury of what runs in his blood. And he will need his family and friends around him when his past rolls in like the fog, threatening an end to all he loves.…

Yes and no.

Mr. Smyth has a great voice. But he tries too hard to bring drama to some of the scenes. He would be great for kids books.

Loved the story!

I can't wait to start book 3. My only issue is that after having listened to the 1st book that was narrated by a woman and now it was a man it made it difficult to get past the characters sounding so different. Don't get me wrong he was good but my suggestion would be to have the same narrator through the trilogy.

Slow narration

The narrator in this book was awful. He paused between words and it took away from the overall story.

Fabulous!

Though the narrator didn't have as good an accent as the first book, he was good. Must listen!

love the book hate the narrator

I got both the Audio and kindle editions because the narrator was awful. His inflection, weird halting pauses and awful character voices made me struggle through it.

Where it usually takes me a day to listen straight through any other Nora book, I finally gave up on day 6 and just fecking read it. I get that he is Irish, but he can't narrate. These titles are not cheap, would it kill Brilliance Audio to hire women for woman voices and men for men?
His characterization had no feeling.. none. All the women sounded nasty and bitchy and the men sounded just annoying. Nora's stories have a depth . This narration flattened it. The flow of the story was ruined. The love scenes were made laughable by his weird inflection and utter lack of feeling. I almost feel like he never read aloud before. just bad.

Narration not so bad. The humor is wonderful

Would you listen to Shadow Spell again? Why?

The book has some very touching moments. I enjoyed listening to the different personalities come out and the delightful funny situations offset the scary parts and made it a wonderful story

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow Spell?

haven't quite finished it I'll have to let you know

What about Alan Smyth’s performance did you like?

although he does hesitate in the dialogue quite a bit, it was easy for me to get used to and made it easier for me to not miss important parts of the story

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh quite a few times

Any additional comments?

I don't see what the comment was about the yelling. Didn't see that at all
