Publisher's summary

Fiercely loyal to his older brother, Alaric McCabe leads his clan in the fight for their birthright. Now he is prepared to wed for duty, as well. But on his way to claim the hand of Rionna McDonald, daughter of a neighboring chieftain, he is ambushed and left for dead. Miraculously, his life is saved by the soft touch of a Highland angel, a courageous beauty who will put to the test his fealty to his clan, his honor, and his deepest desires.

An outcast from her own clan, Keeley McDonald was betrayed by those she loved and trusted. When the wounded warrior falls from his horse, she is drawn to his strong, lean body. The wicked glint in his green eyes ignites a passion that will follow them back to Alaric's keep, where their forbidden love draws them deeper into the pleasures of the flesh. But as conspiracy and danger circle closer, Alaric must make an impossible choice: Will he betray his blood ties for the woman he loves?

Better than the first book in series

I feel a tad silly for saying, but this one really pulled me in. It was hard to stop reading, and I paid for it when it made me blush in public at the contents when I listened during my commute. I liked it much better than the first book (though I do still like Mairin and Ewan's characters), the plot was better. Though I'm still uncomfortable about all of the attacks they are suffering. I wasn't so sure if someone wouldn't survive. It made me laugh several times too. All around enjoyable read.
Good narration, though sometimes hard to tell apart the men's voices

Loved it Loved it!!!

I'm loving the series going to download book 3.
I enjoying the way Maya Banks writes. She writes every well and how she describes the action in her scenes....she gets me all tense inside.
Kirsten Potter is a great narrator. She has feeling when she reads. Some narrator just read either too fast or slow with no feeling. Not K Potter she does her work so well that I'm grinning or have tears in my eyes. I actually found Maya Banks because I wanted to hear Kirsten Potter read.

Romance , Intrigue and awesome narration.

I don’t usually take the time to write a review but this book gave me a roller coaster of emotions which is unusual so I think it only fair to give an author credit when I have experienced such listening enjoyment . This book was the total romance novel. The storyline was interesting, the narration was awesome, the sex scenes were plentiful and descriptive (sometimes a little too much), and the emotion in the delivery of the story was spectacular. I have never openly sobbed when listening to a romance novel. It is worth the credit. The only part in the story for me that was unbelievable is that how is making a young girl live alone in isolation protecting her from the Laird finding her and physically abusing her. Especially since she is living away from the community unprotected. Have your tissues nearby.

Oh, those Highlanders, they'll steal your heart!

I am afraid I am becoming a Highland stalker. This was a well written story, drawing me in from the beginning, filled with twists and turns, softened only by steamy scenes. This is not a book that is filled with sex and struggling to develop a story between the hotness. It would have been a good story without amping it up with the seduction and love elements. Happily, those elements are woven appropriately in the story, making it delicious. Yum. I want more.

OMG!

Well ho-ly jamoly! (Ill explain that and the OMG in a minute.)

Ok so first, this was a wonderful story. I love when a series not just mentions the characters from the previous book, but wholly incorporates them in the story, and this author did that. Not only did she incorporate the characters from the last story, shes got the next book set up as well. Its like it was written as one long book, then cut to make three. It definitely helps if you have read the book before this one, but I believe this would be fine as a stand-alone as well. It is an engaging story and a thoroughly enjoyable read. It was easy to follow story, but not totally predict what was gonna happen. The characters were easy to fall in love with... not just the main characters, but many of the secondary characters as well. I loved the first book in the series, and Im actually going to go ahead after I finish this review and use a credit for the third, and start it right away.

Ok now the OMG and the holy jamoly! Maya Banks has exceptional talent in her story writing, but is even more adept in writing the “intimate” scenes in a very descriptive fashion!! I tend to get bored when reading those scenes because the authors seem to all write them pretty similarly and it gets redundant and boring. I mean, no insult to any author... there are only so many ways to use “shaft”. Lol. But this author.... well, she found a new way. There were some scenes that I didnt really care for, but overall she did a great job. If you like intimate scenes in a book then this is a great place to get it. If you dont like them at all, then definitely don't read this book.

Excellent second book in the series!

I was thoroughly pleased with this second entry in this highlander series! I thought the first book was just so-so, but this one kept me interested and was a lovely follow up. If you we're cheering for the heroine in book one you'll definitely pull for Keeley in this one. Keeley and Alaric's love story was so romantic yet gut wrenching at points, which made for excellent dramatic highs and lows throughout. As always, Kirsten Potter was excellent in her narration. This is not necessarily credit worthy but definitely worth purchasing if on sale.
