Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Julia Quinn flawlessly combines passionate romance with "pitch perfect humor" ( Publishers Weekly).

Miranda Cheever has been blessed with many things, but great beauty is not among them. Still, when she meets Viscount Tuner, she knows she is meant for him. As the years go by, fate is as kind to Miranda as it is harsh on the Viscount. He's skeptical about love with good reason - but he may be falling for Miranda.

Julia Quinn is the BEST

Well, I read this book twice and it is one of my favorite of Julia’s. Next you should read What happens in London. This is the following story. Reading this story is much better than listening. The reader was boring and monotone. The story is lovely especially when we can put emphasis where it belongs. I have read every book our dear Julia has written, mostly twice. But How to Marry a Marquise is my favorite.

Good listen

I like the story but I think it should have been read by someone different. She sounded too old to be a young woman in the book

The storyline

Loved it all, the way of life back then. How proper they were and there way of speaking to each other.

Not a good narrator and unpleasant story.

Narration is not very good. Grating narrator with a flat affect. The book is also more sexist than usual for this genre. Along with the ridiculous assertion that only blondehair and blue eyes are attractive and brown hair and brown eyes are plain that is continually stated again and again is beyond obnoxious. All of the characters are varying degrees of unpleasant as well. What a waste.

Light and fun romance.

Audible doesn’t tell but this is the first of the series. The remaining order is
2. What happens in London
3. Ten things I love about you.
A great regency story, being a modern woman I sometimes want to slap the characters for there actions, but remembering the time and place makes me realize how little choices woman have. Simple romance that had me grinning a few times and I will read the remaining two.

Just So-so

I have read ever book written by Julia Quinn and thought I would try the audiobook version of one of them for a change. This turned out to be a mistake in this case. I remember at the time I read the book thinking that it was not one of Quinn's best but I did not have the desire to wring the heroines neck as i did when listening to this narrator. She managed to make most of the characters sound either insipid or annoying which is a talent in itself I suppose but not one that will make me want to download other books she has read.

The reason for her low self worth

This poor girl was never really given the reassurance that all little girls need whether by society or those she loved. Then when she finally stood up for herself she was not supported. I know it was a different time but really it’s a bit unbelievable. Great narrator keeps it going when I probably would’ve dropped the paper copy.

Love love love

I laughed out loud. I cried giant tears. What a beautiful story. Such a quiet unassuming title for a story that is now becoming one of my most favorite of books. Don’t pass this book by, it’s worth every dotted I and crossed t.

A Decent Story Improved by an Excellent Narrator

This is not Julia Quinn's finest, but it was well worth the credit and the time. The story is sweet and a bit predictable, but I enjoyed the depth Quinn gave each character (except for Winston) and Quinn's typical use of humor.

But what really gave this story a sense of reality was the excellent narration by Jenny Sterlin. I really do like her better than Rosalyn Landor. I wish she narrated more of Quinn's books. She even livened up the draggy parts where the characters talk on and on. She really can bring the characters to life in my ear.
