Publisher's summary

In this splendid New York Times best-seller, Julie Garwood brilliantly crafts the majestic story of a young Englishwoman determined to fight for her freedom...a woman whose life would be transformed by the rare, unexpected gift of love.

When Lady Johanna learned that she was a widow, she vowed she would never marry again. Only sixteen, already she possessed a strength of will that impressed all who looked past her golden-haired beauty. Yet when King John demanded that she remarry - and selected a bridegroom for her - it seemed she must acquiesce, until her beloved foster brother suggested she wed his friend, the handsome Scottish warrior Gabriel MacBain.

At first Johanna was shy, but as Gabriel tenderly revealed the splendid pleasures they would share, she came to suspect that she was falling in love with her gruff new husband. And it was soon apparent to the entire Highlands clan that their brusque, gallant laird had surrendered his heart completely. But now a desperate royal intrigue threatened to tear her from his side - and to destroy the man whose love meant more to her than she had ever dreamed!

My favorite romance

This is the one book I can read over and over again so of course I had to have the audio book as well. It didn't disappoint! the narrator was wonderful and I got to listen while I worked. It made me almost giddy to listen to it thinking "Oh here comes one of my favorite parts!" which happens constantly in this one :) I love love love it!

Going overboard trying to dramatize men's voices!

This was the first Julie Garwood book I read years ago and it still remains my favorite. I thought I would enjoy listening to it. But it was marred by another woman narrator who tries to imitate the men's voices to the extent that whether it's the young hero, the old man, or anything in between, they all end up sounding like a gruff old man. Please, just don't!! A slightly lower resonance would do the trick for a youngish man...I would feel the same way if a man used too high a falsetto for a heroine. I've gotten to be frustrated that the audio samples aren't from a middle portion of the book so it could include an excerpt of male dialogue. I don't want these in my library.

Great Story!

Julie Garwood is one of my favorite authors and this book holds a special place as it is what introduced me to her writing! Love the addition of the audio! And the narrator does a great job!

Great Highland love story

All the characters were easily likable. narration was spot on! This book was a great distraction from crime novels and real life horrific tails of history. Very likable book that can be listened to over and over

Best narrator!

Very good story. "The Bride" and "The Wedding" are also excellent. I bought "Ransom" and "The Secret", but returned them after listening to 20 minutes of the horrible narrator. She gave me a headache, sorry, but her voices for the characters were that bad.

Saving Grace was a pleasure to read

Saving Grace was enlightening in so many ways, culturally on the differences between the English and the Scots and to hear that the Lowlanders might separate themselves from the Highlanders even ! It was also enlightening on the differences between viewpoints of men and women of that period of time, even within the same culture. The main characters were good people who had others' best interests at heart, even if the people they were trying to help didn't want their help. Of course, these types of situations lead to lots of comical outcomes. Very enjoyable.
