I LOVED, SO LOVED this book. The story was Pure Gold and totally excellent. It has everything in it from love, sex and total non-conditional Love I am new to Jennifer Ryan and will be stalking the next book in this series praying it will be released on Audible very soon...
Marrying millionaire David Merrick was the biggest mistake of Jenna Caldwell’s life. Two years after their divorce, Jenna is still on the run, relocating to a new place every few months after each terrifying run-in with her ex. No matter where she hides, he always finds her, and each time his temper worsens. Bruised, battered, and bloodied, Jenna takes her lawyer’s advice and relocated to a quiet ranch in Colorado in the hopes that she can finally stop running…
Jack Turner was also running; in the hopes of forgetting about his nightmarish experiences in the army, he’s retreated to his family’s ranch. But Jenna shows up and forces him out of his isolation—and right into her arms. All he wants to do is pull her close and protect her from the world—and especially from her stalker of an ex.But David Merrick is on the hunt for Jenna and he won’t stop until she’s dead.
Good Books Don't Promote Violence
I enjoyed most of the characters in Saved by the Rancher - especially Lilly (precocious 3 year old), Sally (family dog) and Blue (wild horse). However, certain parts of the plot were too ridiculous to be believable.
Jenna was spunky & smart, so why didn't she get take self-defense training or learn to use a weapon. Also, she could have used video and/or audio recordings to prove that David (ex-husband) was abusive and violent.
When Jenna arrived at Jack's ranch, beaten & bleeding, I didn't buy that she went from being terrified of men to falling in love with Jack and having wild sex in a few weeks. It also would have been more interesting if Jenna had learned to protect herself.
No one- so damaged that they are unconscious for over 24 hours and then wakes with PTSD- trusts the first man they meet and immediately start to have romantic feelings for the stranger. And I have yet to meet a man that sees a woman so badly abused but can't help himself from having romantic feelings. Doesn't happen. What would have made this book better? A more believable premise.
This is a good read though I have to say I wonder at the heroine not feeling threatened by a hero who is violent in his reactions to her life story.
I also have issues with the language skills of the three year old featured in the story. If I was reading the book perhaps it would not have struck me so much but I find it takes you out of the story when something jars you as not being right.
Moans apart I did listen again which is a marker for me that a book is good.
