Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts deftly blends romance and suspense in this compelling novel of a woman whose career, marriage, and very life are threatened by the truth about her own past.

Emma McAvoy may have grown up in the limelight, but some secrets are hidden in a darkness no light can reach. Now on the verge of a successful career, and having fallen in love with the man of her dreams, Emma is looking to the future. Yet it’s the past that is about to catch up with her.

For Emma, her childhood had been almost like a rags-to-riches fairy tale - until the tragic night that changed her family forever. But what Emma thinks she knows about that terrible night and the man she’s about to marry is only half the truth. The other half is locked away in the last place she’d ever think to look: her own memories. It’s a mystery a handsome and relentlessly driven homicide detective needs to solve in a case that’s haunted him for years - and a secret someone will kill to keep.

20 hours flew by

Another good listen from Nora Roberts.....great love story and mystery story.....had me guessing about the 'culprits' until very near the end. I almost didn't purchase after listening to the sample as English accents are a turnoff for me....ugh....but Renee Raudman did an excellent and accurate performance so I was not disturbed by the accents at all.....although I personally didn't see what that added to the story. I enjoyed the book very much.

It Was the 60’s

This is a classic Nora story, written in 1990 and the setting begins in the 60’s with British rockers. Recorded in 2014, read the publisher summary as it is spot on. As in many of Ms Nora’s books, the characters maybe foreign therefore an accent is prevalent for the narrator throughout this story . It can make or break the story. This is a good Chronology of the times. If you’re curious about it, then you will enjoy this read. The jury is out on this one for me as l know too much about the subject line to want to go back in time and remember it. . Narrator Angela Dawe accents do Ms Roberts reads the best justice, along with January LaVoy and Julia Whelan. Check them out

Not her usual narrator

It dragged a little but overall it was a good listen. The narrator's accents were hit and miss and sometimes I couldn't tell who was speaking (female characters).

Great story, so so performance

Like most Nora Roberts books, the story begins a little slow but builds and ends great. This performer has a slight lisp and some of the voices are just annoying. It is frustrating that good stories are not matched with good performers, which happens often with Nora's books.

It's Nora Roberts. I love her books!

Emma felt a little weak at times and I struggled with the narrators's accents.

But overall, a good read!
